The 27th Meal of the Value Range Experiment

Thanks to everyone for baked potato comments yesterday. I'm never going to enjoy potatoes except in a potato salad or roast and thank goodness it's easy to avoid them nowadays.

I needed more fruit to last the rest of the month. From Aldi................

6  Apples      99p
Small Pears  99p

£70.05 + £1.98 = £72.03

The Day 27 meal was leek fritters served up with the one remaining slice of bacon and tomatoes from the 4th tin.

Leek fritters use 1 leek, washed and sliced  and softened in the microwave then mixed with an egg and enough flour to make a batter and fried.

I don't often read this blog nowadays but looked at it yesterday and  came across something that puzzled me...........
If people have a different opinion to me, they are not welcome here.

Oh dear!..............I'm pleased to say everyone is welcome here!

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. The leek fritters sound delicious. Leeks are so expensive here I rarely buy them. I guess yours were from your garden, maybe I should try growing some! All opinions welcome in my blog too!

    1. The leeks were some I bought at reduced price I think there were 5 in the pack for £1 - reduced due to the date - usually £1.49. I grew some from seed last year but they either got trampled on when I had a new heating oil tank installed or they were eaten by pigeons or both

  2. I knew exactly who you were referring to. I don't understand that point of view myself. We can learn a great deal from other.

    1. I suppose I don't blog about anything that gets people upset or angry so don't get many odd comments. Hope I respect other people's opinions

    2. Oh, I can never imagine you being rude. You have a friendly and welcoming blog, and I hope that you never change.

    3. Agree with Debby’s comment.

  3. There are a few others around with the same attitude - ‘this is my blog - what I say goes…..don’t like it, don’t come back’.

You’ve come up with some interesting (edible) meals for the prices you paid. I use the odd store brand here and there but I’m not sure I could devote a whole month to trial and error

  4. I have never thought of making leek fritters, definitely going to give them a try. I have enjoyed reading your month of value meals.

    1. I used to make these quite often in winter when we had our own leeks

  5. We can't all agree with each other and have exactly the same opinions, what a very strange (and boring) world that would be! We just need to be respectful when airing different opinions. Never thought of leek fritters, perhaps I should as we still have leeks in the garden from last year.

  6. The leek fritters sound tasty. I have enjoyed following your month of value brand meals. I wonder what you have missed this last month and whether you will treat yourself now the experiment has finished.

  7. I'm confused, it's now April and you're still on day 27 of the food thing. I thought that was March and would be finished.

    1. I think I started on the 3rd or 4th March, so a few more days left

I too know the blog to which you refer. No comment!!

  9. Bravo, you have almost finished the challenge. Not a niggle but what about costing fuel energy ;). Also love the idea of frittering all my vegetables

  10. It's a shame to close your mind to the opinions of others, isn't it. You miss so much that is interesting and informative. Now I am trying to guess who . . .

The fritters look delicious, thanks for the idea. xx

    1. I used to make leek fritters quite often when we grew our own - and always served up with bacon. Some recipes add cheese - but I never did

    2. I guessed right, by the way - not that it took much thinking really!

Cheese does sounds nice too. xx

    1. I guess I don't blog about things that are likely to cause controversy so perhaps I'm just as bad at staying in my own comfort zone

    2. Perfectly put jabblog. I think the beauty of blogging is that we meet all sorts of interesting people with all sorts of interesting things to say. It will be a sad day when we all think and do the same things.

  14. Love leeks but would never have thought of leek fritters.

Some people who blog are very strange. I do not understand people who only want comments from people that agree with them. I love a good baked potato, Take that Sue! Seriously though when you spread ridiculous conspiracies you must expect to get people pointing out the folly of your ways.

    1. I'm just never going to love a baked potato - at least it's not too controversial to say that!
I wish I could remember another conspiracy theory I heard in the middle of the night (fell asleep with the radio on) but fell asleep again and forgot it - annoying

    2. I do exactly the same thing with the radio. My current favourite conspiracy theory is the 15 minute city. Town planners are now trying to make sure that people can walk to whatever amenities they need within 15 mins - groceries, doctor etc. sounds wonderful to me as I live a 15 min drive from any shop. But no, 15 minute cities are all part of their plan to enslave everyone. It just boggles my mind.

Sorry have hijacked your leek and baked potatoes!

      Delete
    3. That was it! That was what I heard in the middle of the night!
The 15 minute city - planned to keep people within 15 minutes of their home and not allowed outside that area!!
      Really??

    4. That is funny.

Have you seen Magpie Murders? Is on iplayer - set in Suffolk, though south, so closer to me than you.

  15. She was always my first port of call, but now I can't remember the last time I went on her blog. Shame.

I like leeks, my husband isn't keen, so asking him to do fritters is a waste of time, sadly.

    1. Sorry, I told a little white lie there. I didn't know who you were referring to until I read some comments about conspiracies and went on her blog to make sure and that will be the last time.

  16. I grew up being taught it was ok to ' agree to disagree ' , surely that's part of blogging, sharing opinions and inviting the opinions of others. Ah well, it takes all sorts. Love the idea of the fritters BTW x

    1. She has certainly gone down quite a few rabbit holes. Heaven knows why she believes all this stuff. In her words she connects the dots and does “swallow the official narrative”. I would love to hear her call into LBC and James O’Brien

  18. I am definitely going to make some leek fritters. They sound easy to make and delicious. Perfect for my cooking skill level. It is sad that some people dig their heels in when it comes to views. There are always going to be differences in opinions.

    1. It would be a boring world if no one was allowed to comment on anything except unless they agree

  19. I shall be trying those leek fritters - thanks for the method. As for the blogger you mention - it didn't take me long to guess who you meant. But what a shame. As you say, she wrote well about her travels, always interesting. But she has changed - for the worse, unfortunately.
In my local surgery I was recently lectured in no uncertain terms about the folly of having Covid jabs - and indeed all my prescription medications. Obviously some people know far more than doctors or scientists.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh I know who you are talking about, perhaps it gives her a sense of power to be so pedantic. I don’t read her blog any longer, not since tho covid vaccine fuss. We’re all still here. Love your blog, you’re sensible and interesting and know how to communicate well.

  21. The leek fritters sound delicious. Shall be giving those a whirl so many thanks. Arilx

  22. That one has completely lost the plot as far as I am concerned. There is a “research” page with all sorts of ridiculous stuff on it. One could laugh but the stuff she is spouting is down right dangerous. No COVID vaccination, no masks. I have a medical background and it angers me so much when an ex lorry driver thinks they understand immunologisy!

  23. It's good to have different opinions as long as the person isn't being rude! Your meal looks really good again.

  24. And she thinks it is heart warming that French people are revolting! I just cannot take her.

    Sorry Sue!

  25. Leek fritters sound very interesting. Not sure what blog is saying that, but how rude. Differences make us think, and like you all are welcome on my blog.

    God bless.

  26. Thanks for the idea with the leeks - I will have some keft over when the rest go into a quiche - I'll give the fritters a go. I also know who you mean and I'm really sorry she's become so strange. I used to enjoy reading about her travels and was so impressed at her care for animals who had been badly treated. Makes you wonder how people change - too long spent alone maybe? Being part of a mixed bunch of people gives us all a better balance perhaps. Anyway, it's sad. Glad yours is so grounded! Hugs and thanks for the lovely book pics and quotes you share. Elaine

  27. Oh, yes, I too know the blogger you mean. I still read her travels & crafting posts, but skip over the others. I tried to engage once but felt it was a waste of time. I can't understand why people believe vague untrained bloggers or You Tubers, but ignore what mainstream recognised authorities are saying.

  28. I know the blogger you mean abs feel very sad that she has changed so much. I used to love reading about her travels but can't cope with her silly theories. They make me very uncomfortable. Your blog is always a delight, Sue, and thanks so much for keeping it so interesting 👍
