Smaller Library Book Haul

I hope everyone had a good Easter weekend, the weather was good until yesterday when it was Very Wet here in Suffolk - which was probably a good thing as I stayed at home to get jobs done that had been abandoned for several days.

Not many books to collect from the Mobile Library Van last week.....5 crime fiction, one ordinary fiction and one non-fiction. Clare Mackintosh is a new to me author among the crime.  New Donna Leon and Elly Griffiths -Lovely!

As there were fewer than usual it was handy that I still have three and a bit left from the March books - photos below.

'Posh Toast' was flicked through but there were some very strange ideas for toast toppings - think I'll stick to marmalade! I read most of the crime fiction and they've been added to the Books Read 2023 Page.
Mr Campions Wings by Mike Ripley was interesting as it's this authors recent take on the Albert Campion crime books by  Margery Allingham in the 1920's and 30's. I'd not come across this series before but can now go back and read the eight that were written before this one.

Back Tomorrow

    1. This one was set in the 60's - wish I'd found them before

  2. Now all you need is the sun so that you can sit and read in it!

  3. I read a recipe for a 'toast topper' made with spicy mashed potatoes the other day and it immediately reminded me of your last months library book. You have a much smaller haul this month ... you'll be running out of reading matter. ;-)

  4. I hadn't realized that there were new ones out for Leon and Griffiths so I've placed holds on those at my library. I've added a few more from your pile. Thanks for the recommendations! Some are not available over here but you always have a couple I can find! I love mysteries too, Sue!

    1. I'm so glad you are able to find some of the ones I read there - would be so frustrating if you couldn't get any

  5. I'd been reading the Elly Griffith books and took a break from the series. I liked the first DC Morgan book by McKintosh and hope to get the next in that series too. Posh Toast was fun! I love toast and while I'm not always imaginative with toppings, I did make egg in a hole :-)

    1. After looking at the end first (silly me!) I'm wondering if this new Elly Griffiths is the last in the series?
There were some real oddities in that Posh Toast book - not for me I'm afraid

  6. I'm always impressed that you seek out and bring home new books every couple of weeks. It can take weeks to get a book at our library. Easter was sunny and mild. Our temperatures are finally not freezing over night. The bright red male cardinals are visiting my ornamental cherry tree as I type. It is nice to see them for the Spring and Summer.

    1. I put in all requests online from the Suffolk Libraries stock catalogue and then they are delivered from wherever they are in Suffolk to the Mobile Library HQ who bring them out to me once every 4 weeks - Reservations are free here - thank goodness

  7. You always amaze me at how many books you read a month. I treated myself to a new book yesterday. Now to find the time.

  8. Great books this month. The D Leon was good, I ll be interested in what you think. So different from US / UK police procedurals. The Elly Griffiths is not released here til end of April. I hope it isn't the last in the series, tho I am a bit tired of/ bored with? the triangle of main characters and their love lives.
I always very much enjoy your book posts, thanks so much.

  9. Yes, stick to marmalade - and jam of course - two of my all time favourite foods. Honestly, jam and bread would be high contender for last meal on earth.

  10. Lucky you, getting the latest Donna Leon book! I think there are hundreds of people ahead of me on the list at my library.

  11. That to me is not a small haul. Though years ago it would have been in this house.

    God bless.

  12. I love Donna Leon. This one's been out a while, though it may be new to you. I like seeing your selections each month and comparing tastes.

    1. My mistake, I had the Donna Leon book mixed up with her previous title. Now I have to book this one!

  14. Hope you like the Clare Mackintosh. There were some unnecessarily crude bits (I don't object to bad language per se but often don't see the point) but she definitely kept me guessing. My favorite book of hers was I Let You Go, although it was very sad.
