December 6th and the Christmas Stamps

I love to buy the Post Office special Christmas stamps to put on the cards that are sent around the country.

This year books of 12 stamps come half and half, religious and secular. Madonna and child and the prize winner from a children's design competition. The others look like this.

Now I just need to get on with writing the cards.

Hello and welcome to Gingembre a new follower, hope you like reading and thank you to everyone for comments about the Cake Plate. It was one of those once a year special finds!

  2. You can buy them from the sheets if you only want one of the designs. I sat last night happily sticking Mary&Jesus onto my envelopes!

  3. It is a while since I bought festive stamps - sadly I think I still have a book of normal boring first class standard issue. Will have to use those first :)

  4. It's a good idea to have half and half stamps in one book, although it will slow me down a bit deciding which stamp to put on which persons envelope.

  5. they are pretty! I've just used up my last stamp today, with poppies on it. I think it was for remembrance day. I was a bit reluctant to use it really.

  6. I love the Snowman cards! Whenever I receive cards I always look at the stamps. They used to be so colourful and fun. I still have cards to make and send. It's my goal to have them done by the beginning of next week!

  7. Eeeek! I don't even know where our cards are at the moment! We both remember putting them all in the Christmas card box, along with the list of recipients, but now the whole box is missing!
I think DH has popped it into the loft to get it out of his way, I shall be sending him up the ladder tomorrow morning if it's not turned up before then!

    1. How handy that you can deliver. I have cousins in Manchester,Chesterfield, Colchester and penfriends all over plus people we knew from places we've lived before.

  10. I love Christmas stamps. They just make me happy. Last year they did a Charlie Brown set. I was so attached I could hardly bring myself to use them. I kept one. ;) I always keep one of whatever Christmas stamps I purchase. As they are forever stamps they won't ever go to waste because of my weird attachment. haha

    1. When I've been very hard up I've searched through my old stamp collection to find any new ones to use on letters, then regretted it as I want to pass on the collection to grandchildren

  11. I have just stopped in the middle of writing my cards to do this blog, then back to it in earnest. I now have a post box immediately opposite, which is very handy.

    1. Our postbox at the end of the lane is so old that it will only take things the size of a postcard!

  12. Special Christmas Time stamps. Lovely...

I never liked Christmas cards, so stopped, some years ago. It has been such a relief! I know, some just love doing this. And for them, it is wonderful. But for me, no...

When I used to do 'snail mail,' I used to get pretty stamps. :-) Even made my own envelopes too. I had much fun with that.

    Happy coming Yuletide,

  13. Sadly my family are dwindling each year, I've lost quite a few this year but that's life. Christmas always brings it home.

  15. I love reading novels set in England and just wondered if stamps are sold at shops selling sweets and tobacco?

    1. Hello, yes stamps are often sold in places other than Post Offices but only books of 12 or 6. Either First or Second class. If you need larger stamps for small packets or need a parcel weighed then it's a Post Office but these are often now inside other shops and not separate as they once were.

  17. Thank you! I do enjoy reading your blog. I used to blog but haven't for several years now.

I, too, appreciate special postage stamps and try to use them whenever I can get them. When I lived in the USA I had a great variety available to me, but here in Canada, at least in the village post office nearest me, there is little or no variety of US stamps for mailing cards & letters to friends and relatives back "home". It is what it is. It was refreshing to see the stamps you posted.--Ginger (Gingembre)
