December 9th and the Small Treat

I originally bought these as a Christmas present for husband of a friend. Then decided to get the same for me to cheer up December Alone Month. Hope friend's husband likes them...........I do

Very Delicious. A £3 treat doesn't break the bank.

In my December Cup - Even better

This cup and saucer came from a charity shop several years ago and I intended to fill with chocolate and give away, but kept it instead............... It gets used for a month each year.........Another superfluous and un-necessary object! (Let it go Susan.....Let it go!)
Actually I may not be able to use it much longer - it's so blinkin' heavy to lift..........

And a mention of cups reminds me that I recently  found some bits to top up our tableware.
They came from a charity shop in Stowmarket for £10. We've had this Johnson Brothers Summer Chintz for over 20 years. It's very common (as in 1,400 offers on ebay!) so bits often pop up in charity shops and car boot sales but I've never seen or owned the sandwich plate before. Having found these we now have enough to last us out.

Hello and welcome to 4 (I think) new people who have clicked the follower button, I'm shamelessly hoping to get back to the 400 and something followers that I had on the old blog........some way to go as yet.

Thank you for comments on recent posts and all the good wishes for Col's health.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. My very best wishes to both you and Col, Sue. I think that sometimes superfluous and unnecessary is in fact necessary. The little things in life that give us a bit of pleasure and make a difficult day that bit more bearable. X

yes I was pleased to find some more bits, there was another bowl but when I washed it discovered it was cracked. Bowls are the things that seem to get broken most

  5. Yes, I have that cup and saucer and keep it on a wall nounted shelf. It reminds me of a our dear next door neighbour and friend in Wales who passed away too soon.
The Summer Chinz china I remember when it first came out and wanted to start collecting it, but we'd just started collecting Eternal Beau, most of which has now gone, either to a charity shop or broken. Nothing lasts forever.
I was down as a follower on your old blog and presumed that all your followers would carry over to your new blog. Is this not the case? If not I'll have to rectify that.

As it is a different blog follower numbers didn't transfer over so people have to click the button again.

    2. and I meant to say that there is often Eternal Beau at boot sales - and tons of it on ebay - even more than summer chintz

    3. I've gone off the Eternal Beau that's why some have gone to the charity shop, but thank you for mentioning where I can get replacements from.
I've ticked the Follower box, so that's done.

  6. Don't want to break your heart but those coffees are on special offer in Tesco at the moment £1.50 ........ I bought two boxes of the latte as a 'finisher' present for a friend as I know she likes them and I wanted something else just to add to her main present. Then while out she mentioned she's gone off the latte and now likes the cappuccino! So two boxes for meself, must get can of squirty cream to finish off my Christmas treat!

    1. I got them from Asda and they were £1.50 each there too about a month ago - hence £3 for both for my treat

  7. There is nothing like a special cuppa in a lovely cup. It's time out for yourself. Great crockery finds. I have Port Vale and I can't find it anywhere 😩.

  8. Hi Sue

You have to have a little treat now and again. My Geoff likes these too. Hope things are going well for Col and that you are okay too. I have the Summer Chintz crockery which is predominantly my high tea set although it does get used on other occasions. Funnily enough I found bits I had never seen before for this set including a massive soup tureen and ladle and several other serving dishes at a car boot for a similar figure. Sadly I do not get to the car boots these days. I must say I have never seen a sandwich platter like the one you have just located either. I suppose you could also use it for serving fresh salmon on; it has that type of feel about it. Very nice find there. I must say I like rootling around for little treasures. Yesterday I found three egg cups at my local charity shop for £1 which will go with some spotty ones I already have. Take care and keep safe. Pattypanx

    1. I really regret not getting the two tiered cake stand when I saw it about 10 years ago before they came back into "fashion", Thought I had no where to store it so didn't get it

  9. We all deserve a treat, the coffees sound lovely. I keep buying vintage china and I pay very little for it. I also need to find some more of my everyday china as I keep smashing it.

  10. I'm drinking a vanilla latte as I'm reading your Blog but will have to look out for the Amaretto & Vanilla - sounds tasty. I also like the gingerbread latte but haven't seen any this year.
I'd like to add my good wishes for Col's health this month and hope the treatment is successful. Take care of yourself too.

PS. I've also read and enjoyed the Miss Read books, but many years ago.

    1. Last December they had packets of mixed flavours - 2 each of 4 in a box, I looked for them this year and looked on line but they don't do them anymore.

  11. Salted caramel coffee....oh my word....I must get some of that to try.
The Summer Chintz is so pretty. I daren't have anything pretty as Andy breaks so many things. I just have plain white that can easily be replaced....apart from the few text plates I have left.

  12. 'superfluous and un-necessary objects' are sometimes the very best parts of life. And that's a fact.
Good for you for treating yourself. I'm all for treats, everyone needs them. And that's another fact!

  13. A lucky find, matching what you already have. I like rummaging in charity shops..knowing that things have been loved once and can be again

  16. I really like the cup and saucer set. We have Christmas mugs, but haven't got them down from the loft yet - I'll try and persuade my husband that that should happen today. My frivolous purchase this Christmas was a set of six glasses from Asda at 75p each, decorated with a Father Christmas and stacked presents design. Very cute - and totally unnecessary!

If you have snow and/or ice and are driving around - stay safe and warm (Applies to any readers of the blog, not just Sue)

  17. No, don't let the cup and saucer go Sue! Everybody should have a Christmas cup in their cupboards. Not overly keen on Amaretto but would definitely have a 2nd cup of the salted caramel if offered :) xx

  18. Hope you enjoyed the hot drink treats. The caramel one looks nice.
I love the SC pattern and the sandwich plate was a real find.
