We headed out to the big Needham Market car boot sale last Saturday. Nothing of interest for me but plenty of books for the grandchildren. Col got the trucks for Jacob - 50p each- and he found a new sack-barrow for us for £5 (our old one was on loan to youngest when they moved house last year and got nicked from out the back of their flat!). The new one isn't as sturdy as the one we lost but will do for moving the LPG cylinders which is the main thing I'll need to shift.
I picked out a big selection of books, there are 12 lovely Usborne rhyming learning to read books (over £60 new!) which will make a lovely present in a year or two and four others.....16 in total for £5, and another rattly thing for Grandchild number 3 for 50p.........(only 2 and a bit weeks to wait now- exciting), there are also 2 little dolly feeding bottles to go with the doll I got a few weeks ago for Florence they were 20p. Also bought a bundle of small Activity and Dot-to-Dot books for 50p - ideal for a few years time.
I'm sure I said something about not buying so many things for the grandchildren this year!?
Epic Fail!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
What a joyous epic fail though. They grow up so very fast and the time for treating them like that is so short. I would call it making the best of this time. :-)

Not getting broody then Sue?! x
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely having small people sharing books, toys and other experiences with you. The time when they are young is very precious. They grow up quickly and are off on other ventures. Ours are off on their own pursuits mostly now but still love remembering the times they shared with us. Being grandparents is a great privilege. Sue
ReplyDeleteYou certainly get some good bargains, some of our car boot sales just sell rubbish.
ReplyDeleteYou do well scouring the boot sales don't you? I'm on the look out for a sack barrow and a shopping trolley. Crossing items off my prepare for retirement list as I have only 18 months to go now. All the best to Col.
ReplyDeleteHurray for reducing recycling and being fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI can walk past clothes, shoes anything for me, but for the grandchildren I get loads. I am always looking at charity shops for books and toys. Yesterday in Asda I got Will new clothes, which are so cheap, which is great for a little man who is growing so fast.
ReplyDeleteI'm guilty of failing at "not buying so much for the grandchildren" One said to her daddy the other week we like Nanny visiting, she always brings us something.......... Guilty as charged!
ReplyDeleteI had little trouble saying no to my children but I am butter in the hands of my grandchildren. I am sure they will treasure those books.
ReplyDeleteAfternoon Sue
ReplyDeleteOh My! Seeing those little dolly feeding bottles took me back to when I was a child (I didn't think I could remember that far back!). The ones I had, had about half of the bottle in white and half clear (what a good dolly, drinking her milk up! lol). Such a good idea to get children's toys from a boot sale, as the children will be "into" something different next year. As a couple of ladies have said, the children will remember the times spent with their grandparents.
Best wishes
Carol
Good job on finding some fun things for the grandchildren. Our grandsons live with us and it's their spring break, so we put up a tent in the living room so they can camp out all week. LOL! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, Teresa! What a great idea and a fun grandmother you are! Are they sleeping in it too? Bet they'll be the envy of their school friends.
DeleteHave a good holiday.
Carol
It's all part of being a grandmother! I used to love finding toys for the grands but they are too big now.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to getting out to more car boots this year.
ReplyDeleteI do miss buying picture books for the grandkids - make the most of it while you can. The years go by so quickly.
ReplyDeleteBuying books for the Grands is so much fun and the most fun when you find a great bargain! I had to google sack-barrow to see if I had the right idea of what it is. Hand truck or dolly is the common name here in US.
ReplyDeleteI so miss buying books for little ones. It is not a fail if it is educational.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I adore that cat illustration it looks like the Prof x
ReplyDeleteWow what a lovely lot of finds! It's so amazing what you can find. I think with all the things children get nowadays some are hardly used. It's great that these new treasures get to be shared with some more children.
ReplyDeleteUsborne books are great. I used them for our kids. I've not found any lately but neither have I been shopping in thrift stores here lately. Always something fun to buy for grandchildern, isn't there?
