I picked up a leaflet from the roadside stall where we buy our eggs................
This is not too far from us and reachable by small empty back roads so avoiding the busy A140. I'll go and give it a look on one of their Grand Opening days.
May not buy much, as farm shops in Suffolk tend to be rather expensive...... Jimmy's Farm ( Jimmy Doherty of TV and friend of Jamie Oliver) just outside Ipswich sells his sausages..... which I'm sure are really good......for £8 a pound which is a £1 each!
So I'll go and look.........If I can get there! - every time we go anywhere just lately there are signs for road closures - repairing potholes at last, but it does make things complicated ........... trying to remember what's shut when. Monday 19th for 5 days for one bit of road , Monday 26th for 3 days for another bit. This all seems very sudden as some of the pot holes have been there a while. Then the information leaflet came with the Council Tax bill telling us the Suffolk County Council are spending £21 million to repair and resurface 1000 miles of Suffolk roads. I can see road closures being a major feature of all journeys this summer.
Back Tomorrow
Sue
That could be fun visiting a new farm shop. I hope you have no problems getting there. I understand the problems with road closures. Around here we have road repair in various places through out the summer months. You have to remember and check in advance. It can be a pain but would be worse if it didn't happen!
ReplyDeleteSome of the pot holes were given temporary repairs in the Autumn but they are worse than ever again now
DeleteI adore farm shops and country markets. If you do go, I hope you snap some photos. I need to go visit the one not far from me, I especially like to go in the fall when they have pumpkins and all kinds of garden produce. I've never checked in the spring to see what they have for sale. Thanks for the idea! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI will take photos - have no idea if it's small or large or what they will have there
DeleteFarm shops tend to be dear round here too. They're certainly not 'Veg at the Farm Gate' sort of places. Great quality but . . .
ReplyDeleteTaking a look will be fun though, won't it?

I shall enjoy having a nosy round
DeleteI would gladly put up with road repairs, our roads and lanes are deteriorating rapidly here. People have been placing cones into the holes to prevent drivers dropping into them so it is like driving a slalom in some places round here.
ReplyDeleteSome of the roads they did last year now need doing again, but I doubt they will be.
DeleteLooks like it's worth a visit, I love a good farm shop.
ReplyDeleteLast time we were at Jimmy's Farm we ended up helping to re-instate all his electrified pig fencing as our pregnant sow that we had just delivered had panicked and accidentally taken it all out in a mad run around session. We ended up sat having free coffee and cake with his head pig keeper while we got our breath back 😆
Our roads are currently all being resurfaced, yet again. The traffic lights are directly outside our front gates for todays stretch. North Wales roads are by and large very well looked after, and at this time of year they use up the current years budget before the new one kicks in.
I didn't know you had ever lived close enough to be at Jimmys with a pig!
DeleteWe didn't live close. We took one of our rare breeds there to have her litter of piglets to add to his breeding stock before she joined the rest of our herd in The Netherlands.
DeleteI think you go to a farm shop for the experience as well as for what you can purchase...you may pay extra for the experience in your shopping basket...the choice is yours! x
ReplyDeleteI shall photograph my experience!
DeleteThere will probably be lots of free samples to try out.
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
DeleteOur nearest farm shop is ridiculously expensive, the only exception is it sells bacon off cuts for £1.99 kg. In Devon. where I am, there are traffic lights all over the place where they are repairing the roads. I think the council are using their money up before the end of the financial year!!
ReplyDeleteEverywhere we go seems to have road closures and traffic lights and Diversion signs contradicting each other !
DeleteI do love a good farm shop and I must admit that the one we use is pretty reasonable and has some lovely stuff.
ReplyDeleteWe've just had a road closure here last week on our lane into town so we have to drop down onto the A50 which is hell on earth.
Hugs-x-
You are lucky to have a Farm shop that's good value
DeleteWe live near the Windsor Farm Shop which is part of the Royal estate. We've recently been revisiting there for a wander round and a good look. Similar price sausages sold there and we did buy a couple for a treat. Luckily the coffee shop is normal prices so after feasting with our eyes at the deli and meat counter we could return to normal whilst drinking a nice cup of coffee. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteOh.....a royal farm shop! That's Posh!
DeleteIf you go, take pics for us to see
ReplyDelete£1.00 for a sausage!!!!!
I shall take photos but might not buy much
DeleteNot a farm shop but you've just reminded me to stop at the sprout farm and pick up some now they are back in season. The open air strawberries are declining but that farm has tunnels as well so they'll be on sale for a while. Can't remember the last time we bought either of those f&v from a bricks and mortar business.
ReplyDeleteIt's the plant nursery (garden centre) shops that are a 'rip off' here. Everything you thought you needed and more as well as overpriced plant stock.
Just seeing what they have for sale would be very interesting.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
