Library Book Photo as per Usual and Vanishing Bloggers

Books I had requested were picked up from the mobile library last week......... seem to have chopped off half the titles........hope you can still see what they are.
There is more of a mix this month .......only 3 crime, a book about Communal Living, then a couple of cookery books - The Art of the Larder by Claire Thomson and Home Economics by food blogger Jane Ashley. Also two WWII books.......Slideshow - Memories of a wartime childhood and The Childrens Front and finally two natural history books ........Oak, Ash and Thorn - old woodlands. Plus.......The Secret Life of the Owl.

I'll let you know how I get on with them........ they won't last me 4 weeks so I'll be turning to my own shelves again.

I was going to write about how sad I was that favourite blogs have stopped..............but I'm not sure they have, so I've deleted what I was going to say and will say nothing......... until I know or maybe I wasn't supposed to know........maybe they were hiding, maybe they were upset about something I said................I always imagine everything is my fault..............I'm always being told everything is my fault.......the insecurity.............the lack of confidence.....................

Anyway..........welcome to a new follower, hope you like reading and thank you to everyone for more comments on gnomes and about wild garlic, Col getting well again and our green man-up-a-tree!

Back Soon

  1. I wondered if you were talking about the mystery of the sudden end to A Challenging Year blog that arrived yesterday? It all seemed very dramatic and rather sad as the blogger had obviously put a huge amount of time into research and recipes. I hope the reason she isn't ill. Likewise the sudden end to Frugualqueen although her later blogs had got shorter and I did wonder at the time how much longer she would blog. Perhaps the reason behind these decisions is the Trolling you can get. I'm so glad I don't do Facebook or Tweet myself - such sensible advice given to those who work in education years ago!

    1. I seem to be lucky and don't get trolling or negative comments and I hope I never leave any, although things typed maybe don't come over as they would if said face to face

  2. I could just let you choose my library books for me, I really enjoy your choices so much. There are a couple there which I must add to my request list - the woodland one and the larder, no surprise there!
Blogging is a funny old thing. It is fun, but it can become too demanding. There is such a fine line between what we feel comfortable sharing, and that which is personal territory. I have had breaks in the past, even changed id's and started anew when things got too much. Hopefully your old friends will recharge their batteries and come back refreshed and raring to go.

    1. The Larder one was a bit Posh for me! I'm a plain cook as they used to say - although a bit more adventurous than meat and 2 veg which was my mums repertoire.
The Owl book took me an hour to read - it's short.
The other cookery book has become the basis for 3 posts to come sometime.....keep reading!

    2. Excellent! I'll look forward to reading the posts...meanwhile, I feel guilty about not commenting on guilt. I get weighed down by it sometimes, ridiculously so because I know that things are not really my fault, even though I feel the weight of them. I'm trying to train myself out of it - with very limited success!!

    3. I've just read the blurb on The Larder book - I can see what you mean about the recipes. Not for me either...I should have know, I have a pantry not a larder!

  3. Totally agree with what you have written about blogging. It's a funny old business really, what we do, but can usually be very rewarding. Oddly enough, I also worried about the same thing - did I offend, upset, annoy in a comment, enough to force someone off the blogging scene? You just don't know.
However, things change from day to day so time might tell..

I have noticed some blogs have disappeared, one in particular, a lady in Cornwall I followed regularly, then she changed her blog and I found her again, and I thought I hadn't seen her for awhile so went looking, but I think she has completely disappeared now.

  5. Thank you for your comment re blogging.
Like you I become totally convinced that I have been one of the factors that tipped
someone over the edge so they stopped blogging.
I know that is not likely but......
I just hope that my namesake who's stopped blogging is ok and that all is well.
I wish her a happy life and thank her for many years of inspiration and enjoyment and the priviledge of being able to share her progress from townie to welsh smallholder.
In the meantime thanks for your blog. I love it and enjoy reading about your part of the country, your recipes and your books. I'm full of admiration for yours and Col's courage. It was lovely to see him up a ladder and with your grand children recently.
Thank you for sharing; you often dig me out of my hole and make me think sideways.
    Sue.

  6. Some bloggers have disappeared that I enjoyed reading, and like you, I wonder if it’s the comments made that have caused them to go. You always choose such an interesting mixture of books and I like to see what this month’s selection contains-thank you. It was lovely to see Col fixing the green man to the tree and hope spring is now here to stay. Glorious weather here in Central Scotland today but maybe I won’t put away my boots just yet. Catriona

  7. I'm so sad that Sue over at 'A Challenging Year has stopped blogging so suddenly. Her ' sealed pots ' , challenges and rationing were an inspiration. As a result I've challenged myself to feed my family of four on £35 per week ( going ok so far ) and I've turned part of my garden over to soft fruits and acquired an allotment for veg. Hope she returns. I know what you mean about everything being you fault - I have the same problem :-)

  8. Ditto to all of the above. I just hope they’re happy and well. On a similar note I had a blog a few years ago, lots of followers, etc. I had to stop because of harassment from someone I knew. But...like the Phoenix...

I'm amazed that pile of books won't last you 4 weeks although I'm the same with wool I suppose :) If you haven't said anything unkind, which I'm sure you haven't, I wouldn't give a second thought to blogs disappearing being your fault. People stop and start blogging for all sorts of reasons - myself included :) xx

  10. The biggest problem with bloggin is the people who judge you, it only takes a few. I use my blog as my online diary, showing how I do things, which often can be different, but it's my blog. It's so sad when people (who become part of your life, even thou you have never met) stop posting...

  11. Think I am the new follower. I did read your blog before but it disappeared from my list, maybe when you changed the name. So I was very pleased to find you again the other day just by chance. I do find it sad when blogs I have read for years (like the ones mentioned above) suddenly vanish.

Sorry you lost me! I had a month off when we moved but have been blogging since then. People are still looking at the last post on the old blog where there is a link to this one.

  12. One problem I have found is Apple didn’t support Blogger on an iPad so it was becoming more difficult to write and illustrate a blog. I switched to Wordpress, it has proved hard for readers to comment, I am having to ‘approve’ the few over and over again.
My second problem is I am constrained after a reader who I knew objected to a comment about a church service at which he wasn’t present. My style of blogging changed, nothing controversial, more knitting, less open about my personal thoughts in case I had more unpleasant emails, still rankles after six years.

Quite a few Bloggers have switched to Instagram, just a photo and a few hash tagged comments rather than elegant prose.

Anyway, I’m still blogging at pixiemumblog with Wordpress if you would like to see and comment on my ramblings.

  13. I don't think it is personal.I think people are using Instagram more.My problem at the moment is that I can't put photos on my blog.I get to a certain point and it asks me about size and positioning of the photo and then comes up with a page of computer gobblygook language. So frustrating.
keep on blogging.I love to read your posts.

  14. I go on most of the blogs I follow three times a day - as soon as I get up in the morning, like now; early afternoon and then last thing at night. The reason for this is some people who blog have different times they publish their post for the day. They all cover different subjects which I find interesting and I would feel 'cut-off' from my 'friends' if they all stopped blogging. I wasn't really surprised about Sue as she had just returned from a break to start A Challenging Year. This time however the abruptness of her going is - not worrying but perhaps concerning that there is a reason behind it.

Am I being too personal with this comment? I hope not, but I do have a tendency to get too personal or familiar with people, a trait I can't help and because of this I feel that I may be the 'nail in the coffin' for someone to stop blogging.

    Don't stop blogging Sue, please.

    Joan (Devon)

  15. what would we do without our libraries. I've been using ours all of my life. Here in Brighton the council are gradually cutting them out and the mobile library has gone completely.
As for losing bloggers, I think sometimes people just run out of things to say and think that they are repeating, I've had that feeling myself sometimes. I'm sure its nothing you've done.
Glad your husband is feeling better. Tomorrow we go for the diagnosis of Tom's lungs condition, we've had one but the in depth scan may be able to tell what has caused it, fingers crossed although there will still be no cure.

  20. I feel the same way as others - that when a blog disappears suddenly that it's like losing a friend and that you do worry.
I know that John Grey seems to simply need a break - and that is totally understandable - it takes real discipline to post nearly every day and a lot of effort - to take the time - to come up with something that will be of interest - to write in an interesting manner and to withstand the terrible comments & trolls that some seem to be subjected to!
When "Frugal Queen" disappeared I worried because it seemed so odd - not a word to anyone - just all Social Media GONE.
I feel the same about Sue at "A Challenging Life" - I understand that she is a very busy lady and that her blog must have taken a lot of work - but to disappear so abruptly is also worrying. Is she ill? Is a family member ill? Has something terrible happened? People can't help but wonder - especially after following someone for so many years.

  21. There are a couple of blogs I really miss and I wonder whether they are ok. The writers of blogs I generally read I think of as online friends. I like to see what they're up to and how they are doing. I understand life changes and sometimes priorities change but it's still a little upsetting.

What a wonderful lot of books from the library! I love books. I think they are the one material possession I would hate to be without.

  22. I stopped writing my blog last year. I have to at least do one more post as I left on a cliffhanger. Now I feel I have been very disrespectful to my readers. I have three blogs I read first thing, yours, Weaver and John, down to earth writers all.

  23. Hi there. I've been following and enjoying your blog for quite a while now. And also Sue with her Challenging Year blog. I've not always agreed with everything but goodness me not something we could not discuss over our kitchen table over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee (with cake of course!). I will miss all the stories about Suki, Mavis, Ginger and the Chooks and Sue and hubby. If you are in touch give them my best wishes.

  25. The picture of your books from the library is a favorite of mine as is the monthly pic of your lane. I am always disappointed when I can find none of the books in Colorado's library system. Of course I do love the daily written update too. So glad to read that you are not contemplating stopping blogging.

  26. It’s funny isn’t it how we dip into each other’s lives through our blogs. I think of peoples blogs I read as my friends and I do miss them when they don’t post, even though I’m not always the most regular poster myself xx

  29. I'm sure that those who stop blogging do it because of burn-out and not because of anything you did. What hurts my feelings - as a blogger - is when someone whom I always leave a comment on every single one of their posts - stops returning the favor and drops off from commenting on mine. But it is what it is and I just carry on. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  30. The pile of library books is one of my faves too. I'very been waiting for this pic to let you know about a book that may be up your street. I'm waiting it from the library ....Bookworm: A memoir of childhood reading. I saw it reviewed in daily mail I think it was. It covers books you will have read as a child ... mallory towers etc. Another interesting pile. Enjoy. CurlyTop
