First of all......................Hello and Welcome to some more followers, hope you enjoy reading.
Another month and another heap of books ordered online and collected from the library van.
There are new crime and some reprinted from the golden age, and two by authors not read before. A couple more cookery books to flick through and I was pleased to find the library had bought a few more Dean Street Press Furrowed Middlebrow re-prints. I'd better re-read To Kill A Mocking Bird before reading Go Set A Watchman. Should be sufficient for the month!
I only read 3 of the crime fiction from last month and just browsed through the recipe books, which meant I ran out of library books and had to read from my shelves - no great hardship!
Books read have been added to the separate 2019 page.
There was a good steady rain here in IP14 on Saturday afternoon................that was a surprise as it wasn't forecast when I looked on Friday. It was much needed. I have 9 water butts and 5 were empty - the four still with water were the ones furthest from the greenhouse and patio pots.......... of course......... so extra glad to see the rain to save me lugging the watering cans.
Back Tomorrow

NINE water butts! Who can beat that? We've got three compost bins / heaps but I'd bet you've got more of those as well.
ReplyDeleteI had to check I really did have 9! But yes...... one off the bathroom roof, one off each side of the greenhouse and 3 linked together off each side of the garage.
DeleteAs to compost heaps/bins there are 3 open grass ones on the edge of the meadow and two big hexagonal bins in the garden plus two small bins that I probably don't need now.
I can imagine you were pleased to have rain. We have not had rain for ages. Looks an interesting selection of books.

It was a good surprise and they didn't have any in Wimbledon so I just settled down to watch that
DeleteGo Set a Watchman had some really bad reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do love To Kill a Mockingbird, I've read it a number of times.
ReplyDeleteI've only read it once but need to re read now
DeleteIt's a rainy day here but that's no surprise as we hav had rain storms almost every day for weeks.
ReplyDeleteRain and low temperatures have been the norm here for awhile.
ReplyDeleteAll my four kids did To Kill a Mocking Bird at school, I got thoroughly fed up with it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that I'm not the only person in the world who didn't enjoy TKAM. People look at me like I'm crazy. I won't read the next book either.
DeleteI loved TKAM but have hesitated to read GSAW because of the poor reviews. It's probably in our Library. Perhaps I'll be able to get it for my holiday fortnight
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely books to read! I'll have to look up Death on a Shetland Isle. Looks interesting! I hope you let us know how they are.
ReplyDeleteOoh I see you have chosen 'Go Set a Watchman'. I've read this book and having read 'To Kill a Mockingbird' as a child I was expecting it to be a poor imitation but how wrong I was, the characters whilst older were just as vibrant and in their way just as shocking. I cannot understand why Harper Lee didn't want the book published as it is a fitting sequel to her first novel and so well worth reading
ReplyDeleteLovely to see a Furrowed Middlebrow title in the mix, Sue, and to know your library has them! I'll also chime in and say I loved Watchman too.
ReplyDeleteI've suggested several to them for buying but they've only bought a few - better than nothing I guess. I'm saving up for August 5th!
DeleteWe got almost an inch of rain last night and it was greatly appreciated. I have read Go Set A Watchman and enjoyed it. I hope you do as well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes! James Wong! Getting us all to go beyond our cultural comfort zones in eating and gardening. I am a big fan of his.
ReplyDeleteI've just bought the 'Go, Set a Watchman' for 50p from the RSPCA today!
ReplyDeleteI loved To Kill A Mockingbird, so I'd be interested to see what you think of Go Set A Watchman.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember when we last had rain! I only have 1 water butt, which has been empty for ages. I'm so fed up with watering cans!
