I don't know how two posts were published yesterday. Operator error presumably!
Colin and I had a few days in Mid Wales in 2016 and then after he died in 2018 I had a short break in Lincoln with Son, DiL and Granddaughter in 2019. So it was about time I ventured out alone.
I didn't go very far, just up to the North Norfolk coast at Sheringham. A change of scene to somewhere I've been a few times but not for many years. It's a fairly straight forward journey too, A140 all the way.
I stayed in a small ground-floor flat which was well equipped, beautifully clean, warm and neat but had a very solid bed and pillows! so I didn't sleep well............a good thing it was only 3 nights!
The weather was fine with some sun, some cloud but a very cold NE wind. It was difficult to know what to wear and I kept going from hot to cold!
On arrival I went straight down to see the sea which was only a couple of roads away and down a hill from the flat.
The wind was straight off the sea, it was high tide and the waves were huge.
Then back to the flat to unpack and settle in.
Back Tomorrow with photos of where I stopped to visit on the way up to Norfolk.
Sue
Well done for going alone ๐. It feels strange at first but you will discover benefits such as being able to do what you want to do !
ReplyDeleteHave an interesting time. Anne
I'm home again now - will be writing posts about it for a few days
DeleteWell done for having an adventure. Onwards and upwards after this. I hope that the sea air was beneficial even if it did come all the way from Siberia!
ReplyDeleteIt really was cold but a nice change
Deleteglad you got away. lovely, cheerful beach huts!
ReplyDeleteVery few people about near the sea on the day I arrived ! So rough
DeleteNorth Norfolk is beautiful. Looking forward to your other photos. I bet you saw a few churches, Norfolk has plenty.
ReplyDeleteDidn't visit any churches but noticed lots of round towers in the village I drove through
DeleteLove being by the sea. Enjoy your break. Catriona
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not sitting on the beach weather!
DeleteWell done!! Next time you come to Norfolk, I will try not to be in Scotland, so we can meet up!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good plan!
DeleteWell done, even though holidaying in England can be freezing cold.
ReplyDeleteI was glad the flat had good heating - it was needed
DeleteThank you for posting this! I was widowed around the same time as you, and have been away once, but I had a dog then. Since Covid , I lost my dog, and haven't yet been away. I'm looking forward to seeing more about your getaway,. How did it feel, and what did you do? I love Norfolk, and it's where I like to go. X
ReplyDeleteIt was strange being away on my own but good to be brave enough!
DeleteVenturing out on your own will get easier. Did you call in on Rachel?
ReplyDeleteI'm used to doing things on my own from home but this was a bit different. No I wasn't really near Rachels home
DeleteIt was cold and windy the last time I went to north Norfolk, too. You have to pick your weather in that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever sat on the beach in Norfolk - always chilly
DeleteNot easy to holiday alone as a widow Sue. I went abroad a few times between my two marriages and the first two years of my marriage to the farmer I ventured alone to Marrakesh and then to Sienna. Now my ventures are past - so I say well done my dear - can't have been easy. As we Easteners know only too well - the old North sea produces big waves and chilly winds but your photos show it in all its glory.
ReplyDeleteYou are much braver than me - I'm never planning to go abroad!
DeleteSuch a pretty area to holiday
ReplyDeleteCathy
Very green after all the rain we've had and a bit cold and windy but beautiful
DeleteSo pleased for you that you had a change of scene , those waves are great - wish I was an artist and could paint that , with the pretty beach huts!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Hope you enjoyed your break. I love North Norfolk and it doesn't take long to get there. My dad now lives near Cromer. I should take advantage of this when I go up to visit him!
ReplyDeleteYour mini-holiday sounds delightful. Your photos of the Norfolk rocky sea coast at high tide with large waves coming against the rocks is spectacular. The blue sky is brilliant. I love a wild ocean with high winds. Brisk ocean winds call for a windbreaker jacket with the option of putting a fleece underneath. (If you purchase, buy waterproof/breathable.) Warmth is important in these breezy (and/or wet) conditions. My windbreaker is probably worn all year around - they are good utility.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the sound of crashing waves! That looks like a lovely place for a visit! Hope you had a wonderful time, Sue!
ReplyDeleteI used to take trips alone quite a bit, even when younger and married, because we had different tastes in trips. Nowadays I'm not doing trips, but I applaud you for planning and doing! You can please yourself.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! So brave. I am the last cottage here before the dunes and ocean, so I know all about those cold winds and wearing layers. Still wearing a down jacket to walk my dog.
ReplyDeleteAt lower tide is there an actual beach? And how fun it would be to sketch and paint those classic beach huts.
Last, if you travel by car, you can always put a couple of your own pillows in the cargo space, just in case. [plus, you know, cleaner...].

Fabulous photo of the waves and beach huts Sue. Arilx
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like really good first little holiday on your own, and I agree the winds have been really chilly for the time of year haven't they.
