So Many Things Happening

It's always a dilemma when so many things are happening in different villages and towns around all on the same day.

What to choose?

A Village Garage Sale Event a few villages away from me?
A Once a Month Farmers Market in the other direction where I could find some more cheeses to try?
The first of the years once-a-month car-boot sale further away
National Mills Weekend (windmill and watermills open day)
The regular Saturday car-boot sale?
Weird and Wonderful Wood at Haughley Park?

(Maybe not that last one - I tried to go on the Saturday  last year and the queues of cars to get in stretched for nearly 2 miles down the road! I went on the Sunday early instead but even though it's been voted one of the best events in Suffolk I'll not go again this year - perhaps next year)

I'll let you know in a post next week which one or two I decide to go to - unless it rains all weekend and I don't go anywhere!

*************

But looking back at this week...........................I called in quickly to the midweek boot sale on my way to shopping and bought a tree I didn't need! But when I saw  a man had loads of pots of good sized Rowans for £5 each I just couldn't resist. It's been squashed  into the side border - just hope it survives and grows as it will help hide the house that's behind me. Then I came home a different way so I could visit a small nursery that specialises in perennial plants and is only open in late spring and summer. I was looking for a Bergenia or Elephants Ears and hadn't seen one anywhere else. Luckily he had just a couple left out the back - he said no one wants them anymore so he's no longer propagating and selling them. I want it to spread and fill a gap in the front border - at least the last two days of rain showers have watered both things in........yesterday was really nasty down here in Suffolk.

Our Keep Moving Group is still going well - all 12 or 13 of us are feeling the benefit. We put up posters to try and find a few more people but it hasn't worked so far. Two weeks ago we had a visitation from the man organising a more recently started group in Debenham, plus a physio from the NHS and a lady from the District Council - all came to see how we are getting on running it ourselves (after being organised by Community Interest Groups previously). The MSDC lady and the Physio thought we were doing fine but the man from Debenham mildly criticised all we did and made several "suggestions!". He invited us to go to Debenham to see how they did things (better than us of course!). I suggested that one morning in June we all descend on their group en-masse just to find out. That could be fun.

Who else does the New York Times Daily Wordle? I was late to the party so had only played 69 games when it was on # 691 on Thursday. There are even websites where you can cheat or get hints - disgusting! I'm on 99%  - only 1 fail - without cheating- but there are some strange words appearing. I love the way that if it takes all 6 guesses to get the word it flashes up with PHEW! as that's exactly how I feel.

My tomato and aubergine plants are mostly now potted up into their big pots in the greenhouse and I'm still puzzling over where to put the other two courgette plants, the three squash and the six gherkin plants............seem to have forgotten I don't have a smallholding or a six vegetable beds anymore!

And finally tonight is the Eurovision Song Contest and if you didn't know then you must have been asleep all week! It's being held here rather than Ukraine for obvious sad reasons. We won't be coming second like we did last year and the music and costumes are weird but so many people love it and anything that gets people from different countries together enjoying themselves must be a good thing.

This week I've been grateful for......

  • Watching my garden grow
  • So many good books
  • The Keep Moving Group working well
  • The lovely comments on my Thursday post and knowing my blog is the first one some people read every day - thank you.

Have a good weekend.
I'll be back Monday
Sue

  1. My technology went strange in March and I lost my Wordle scores, so I've started again. 100‰so far (with a few "phew" scores) I find repeat letters and American spellings (eg honor) the hardest.

    1. Annoying to lose your score.
I discovered that getting one wrong took me to 98% then when I got several more right it went up to 99%. -odd.
      American spellings are annoying

    2. This Yank finds British spellings annoying, LOL. Also, I wish we lived closer. I have been dividing and giving away bergenia but I still have lots left! Not too many people here grow it and most don't know what it is. It is wonderful in shade! Mine started with 3 plants 25 years ago and I can't tell you how many times I have divided it. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

  2. I have grown too many tomatoes but will squeeze them in somewhere!

    3. So I went off to try Quordle and only got 3 in 9 rows - fail . It's got annoying changing ads too . Might try again another day

  5. My personal first choice would be the Farmers Market for cheese! but they all sound very tempting. I am persevering with Wordle but some recent words have begun to annoy me. Some are not proper words at all.

  9. I do Wordle every morning with my coffee!
My dh does it as it comes out just after midnight so he watches with interest to see if I do well, worse or better than him!
That and the Radio Times Enigma crossword.
One seems to help the other funnily enough.
Weaver in the Grass, Go Gently, Quiet Life in Suffolk and a lady in Montana are my daily blog must-reads.

    1. I don't do the Enigma Codeword - can't check if what I've guessed is right(looking at the answer!) like I can with a codeword in a puzzle book!

  10. We, husband, daughter and I, do the Wordle everyday. We nearly lost my husband with the 'snafu' one!! He was fuming! Quordle is good fun, 4 words in 9 guesses.
I read you and the other Sue ( a smaller and simpler life) every morning plus as many others as I can before real life calls.

  13. Like you I've fairly recently started doing Wordle - I'm quite glad there's only one a day otherwise I might not get my housework done :)

  14. I play Wordle every morning. It's fun. Good for the brain as well. You have so many great options and I think I'd be torn by one of the boot sales and the farmer's market. Too bad you can't combine two of those outings of one were close to another.

  15. Wordle is my wake up with coffee part of the day. I play several of the variations too, but never would I cheat, it defeats the purpose. Do you use burner words or not? Immersing myself in Eurovision. Either you do or you don't! Enjoy. Deb in Wales

  16. Your new tree sounds great and the price was amazing. I suspect you'll find places for all the plants you grow or purchase. A friend has a new smaller garden and she is planting in raised bed structures and large pots. She has just installed an 8 ft. tall fence to protect the garden from wildlife already destroying small plants. (Oh no!) Your exercise class seems to continue on very well. It sounds marvelous and is so beneficial for health and well being.

  17. Quite the ideas of places to view on Saturday. I most likely will stay home today. I have put strawberries in rectangle pots and hope Megan and I can get small greenhouse together. It's to be in low 90s today and 80s next week. No rain for awhile. Although we've had some early this week . Are Debenem stores open again? I read they were closed after the pandemic hit. I liked that store when I was in England πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§. I wind up buying plants as well including an arborvitae. I hope Phil gets it planted soon so it's one less potted plant. Have a good weekend..

  18. Lots of places to visit so I am looking forward to finding out your choice. It is (or was as it seems to have stopped for a bit) raining here, has been for 2 1/2 days quite steadily. So stayed home all cozy inside and baked or sewed.

    Great buy on the Rowan.

    God bless.

  19. I'm a Wordler! My middle son, who lives in Turkey, Wordles as well and we email each other with our results daily, adding snippets of our 'doings' as a PS. It's so much more enjoyable when you have a Wordle buddy to compare with - and rant at when words like 'snafu' appear!
I'm looking for a Rowan, but have to depend on online buying these days; my sight is getting worse and I'm no longer able/legal to drive. Mine will be a lot more than a fiver!!!

  20. Oh MY! I do have to say that your Rowan tree would had been on my list of gratitudes.

  22. I never have gotten into Wordle, but I'm addicted to Words with Friends (Scrabble). I always have multiple games going. I am thinking some of my opponents either live on the other side of the world or just stay up all night!

  23. I don't think I could have resisted a Rowan tree for £5 either ... I would figure out where to plant it when I got home. :-)

I do Wordly every day, and have ever since it started in this country before it was sold to the New York Times. (The guy who invented it for his partner during lockdown made a life changing amount of money from the sale - good for him.) I have a good string of successes and then usually miss out on a word and have to start a new streak. I also do Wordle, which is one of the few alternatives without annoying adverts.
