I was glad that it wasn't me standing around selling at the boot sale on Saturday morning and happy to be walking round because the wind was freezing.
I hurried round in an hour and quickly went home for breakfast and to get warm again. These are the things I found.
The T-shirt will make a present for YGD for her birthday next month, there's a little kit for making wind chimes and two small enamel pie dishes, I would have preferred ceramic as metal won't agree with the dishwasher but they are new and will do to replace the two I have which are ceramic but have become very crazed. Also there are a pack of cheap food bags and I bought a large bag of lovely fresh Purple Broccoli from one of the vegetable sellers. Total spend £6.50
Back Tomorrow

Interested that you don't put your enamel metal pie dishes in the dishwasher. What happens to them? I put mine in the dishwasher and so far all seems to be well. Best Wishes, Frances
ReplyDeleteEnamel doesn't last so long in a dishwasher - they tend to get chipped and then rusty
DeleteIf there are any chips in the enamel, the d/W can speed up the rusting process. But I put mine in the d/W. I love enamel dishes, and look out for the pukka Falcon Ware brand in charity shops. I just wish I could reheat them in the microwave!
ReplyDeleteI had some cake baking tins that have gone really rusty since they've been washed in the dishwasher. Not sure any metal is really suited to dishwasher washing
DeletePity the poor sellers who had to stay to justify the price of their pitches.
ReplyDeleteEveryone selling was looking very cold but there were plenty of people looking round so I expect they all stayed
DeleteIt was such a chilly weekend, wasn't it.
ReplyDeleteDoes any burnt on food soak off easily with enamel dishes - I love the look of them. xx
I really prefer ceramic for everything but I'll see how I get on with these, they might not be kept - depends on how they clean up
DeleteThey clean up really well Joy. I badly burnt something recently on one of my smaller ones and really thought that it would be ruined. But I left it soaking overnight in normal washing up water and the burnt bits all came off with a cloth the next morning.
DeleteIt was a washout here. So no carboot sales for us.
ReplyDeleteIt was unusual to have a fine Saturday and Sunday morning here so far this year but the site of the nearest local Sunday boot sale is still waterlogged so not sure when they will re-open
DeleteWell spotted good buys. I agree about ceramic being good-I hold onto my three big dishes every time I have a kitchen cull. It was bright and freezing yesterday but we’re still housebound with the lurgy. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI'm loath to get rid of my two small ceramic pie dishes but the glaze is completely crazed
DeleteI run the dishwasher as soon as its full and if I'm on my own that takes about two days to fill; I hate handwashing so things that rust get short shrift.
ReplyDeleteI'm using a stainless steel roasting dish now instead of the old metal one. The old metal one comes out of the dishwasher rusty and needs scrubbing with wire wool and a thorough dry on the boiler before I can put it away - what a palaver!
having things sitting in the dishwasher for a couple of days waiting to wash is probably why I also have problems with anything enamelled
DeleteDespite the cold, you got a few good buys. Hopefully Spring warmth is on the way. It is cold here too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of cold east winds at the moment - not very spring-like
DeleteThe weather is so up and down here. One day warmer and the next snow flurries! But Spring is getting here slowly but surely (Hopefully!).
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I went to a indoor vintage fair on Saturday and it was mobbed by young people! They were buying up vintage t shirts and clothing that my sister and I recognized as styles from our youth!! :)
No snow here thank goodness - yes vintage is the new antique!
DeleteThose enamel dishes brought back memories of my childhood Sue - and delicious rice pud cooked overnight in the fire oven and coming out all creamy with a brown crust on the top.
ReplyDeleteMy mum's rice pud was always from a tin!
DeleteAnd a fun time was had by all so it sounds!
ReplyDeleteA fun time getting cold! I was glad to go home after an hour
DeleteI didn't realise that about the enamel dishes, thought it was just aluminium - definitely learn something every day on the blogs x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
I've had to chuck a couple of things that got ruined in the dishwasher - getting rusty mainly
DeleteI'm afraid I'm a fair-weather car-booter these days. The last two we did were both in a nice church hall, all warm and cosy and with tea, coffee and bacon butties being made in the kitchen. Gone are my days of standing in a freezing cold field.
ReplyDeleteI use my enamel cookware all the time and really like it. Things cook well in it and it washes like a breeze, needs a bit of soaking occasionally ... see my reply to Joy above, but usually it's just a wipe with the dishcloth when I'm washing the pots. I've never had a dishwasher so I don't know how they fare in there.
I like enamel dishes. There is somethings of the 1950s about them.
ReplyDeleteEven though you had to hurry because of the cold, you managed to find some great deals.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Nice finds at the boot sale. I like the dishes. They really are classic looking.
