After the Wednesday boot-sale I'd planned to visit a couple of churches in small villages to the east of Needham Market. I went to three and they were all locked...........so much for that plan!..........I went home again and spent the afternoon sorting out exactly what was in two drawers in the TV unit. There was a box with a large collection of keys - not for anything here - and all sorts of other bits and bobs.
The other two drawers have CDs and DVD's and I decided to put all my old Kevin Costner DVD's in the charity shop bag - can't remember the last time I watched one.
The boiler has gone wrong again, big wet patch on the garage floor and low pressure light on and even when I let water in it only lasts for a few hours. Repair man called - although I think I need a new boiler. Then my phone decided to play up so I zoomed down to Tesco in Stowmarket and the lady in the phone shop fiddled with it and got it sorted and later on the same day I went down with a cold - no doubt caught from grandchildren on Saturday. Spent the rest of the day sneezing and drinking lemon and honey in hot water.
So we got car issues sorted and then a week of other problems - Hey Ho!
On a dry morning Brother in Law came and cut the grass for me with his proper mower as it was too long and wet for my re-chargeable battery mower to cope with. He can get it much shorter too and it always looks so tidy - for a while.
Hope there is some more dry weather over the weekend, everyone I speak to is so fed up with the rain and grey days, even people who don't usually take a lot of notice have had enough of it this year.
Thank you to everyone for comments over the last couple of days and apologies for not replying. My excuse being that I've so many good library books to read this month.

I might try to visit in summer - perhaps they don't expect visitors this time of the year - even though 2 out of the 3 churches had signs saying Open Every Day
DeleteI hope the boiler issue does not prove too costly. I'm sure ours is going to need replacing soon. I wish we didn't have an oil fired system, but like many Eastern Anglian villages, we have no gas hsrey
ReplyDeleteI fear I'm suffering from the previous owners having a cheap boiler. I've a tank full of oil and expect to have a big expense for a new boiler so I can use it for more than a few weeks at a time before it goes wrong
DeleteYour boiler problem sounds like one we had with our previous boiler when the expansion vessel failed. You could top up to get the pressure in working range but as the boiler heated up the expansion of the water was no longer being taken up by the expansion vessel, and the boiler vented itself through the pressure relief valve so that when it cooled down it was back to low pressure. In our case, the cost of a new expansion vessel, with fitting (which pretty much involved fully dismantling the boiler) was more than a new boiler, so we got a new boiler.

DeleteMy new boiler last year was the best thing to happen. The new one has given me better, more efficient heating. The initial cost was high but it worked out in the end and I am happy with the result. Get a decent boiler while you can still get them.

DeleteYour speaking of keys in the drawer reminded me Sue that I found just such a selection when we moved into the farm house when David's Mum died. I sorted them out and stuck about twenty of the very small ones on to a piece of hessian, found an old, small picture frame which I painted green and then distressed and framed it. This small 'picture' hangs in my kitchen and is much admired.

DeleteIsn't it funny how we all seem to accumulate keys and yet are loath to throw them away. I always think the minute I throw the random keys away i will find the thing that they fit, it hasn't ever happened up to now ... but you never know!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it might be time to bite the bullet and get a new boiler. It's a good time of year to try and get a good offer, most people start thinking about replacing boilers just before Winter sets in.
I keep keys for the same reason and the like you say - I've not found a reason for keeping them yet.

That includes my sewing machine as it has things to get fixed including hems on a pr of jeans and put in a new zipper on my husband's coat. I've had problems with my laptop but it's seems to be updated now so hope it stays that way. I'm driving my daughter to church tomorrow in another city and enjoy being there as well as the one my husband and I go to here in our city. Our church is much older than the other church. Most churches here started locking their doors many years ago after thefts, fires being started, and of course vandalism. However during the day they are mostly open.

DeleteOver time, you've had a few boiler issues. The fix seems temporary. I would be tempted to buy new. I am looking to purchase a new washer and dryer. I am looking now and find they are computerized and adding tech to washers/dryers is just more things to go wrong. The sales people tell me I can ignore the tech and just push the start button. Why would I want to operate my washer/dryer via my i-Phone? It appears I will have the option whether I want it or not.

Yesterday, Tim mowed our yard/field for the first time with the brush hog and the tractor, and (it has become an annual tradition!) we are going to try to get it unstuck. :( He always thinks he can get a little deeper into the damp areas...
