Easter Cards

March.....and it was my turn for a Penny Pincher Letter. I've mentioned before how a group of us who subscribed to The Penny Pincher Paper kept in touch after the Paper finished. There were 7 of us

writing originally...........now we are down to  5 taking it in turns to write.
My Penny Pincher Letter is rarely about Penny Pinching because it's all old news but I just write about what's been happening in the last few months, books read, bargains found etc. much the same as the blog...........but without pictures! Luckily 2 of the people who I send letters to don't read the blog so it's new news to them.

Anyway, as Easter is coming up I thought I would make some cards to include in with my letter. I had a quick look through the stash and couldn't find anything that gave me any ideas for cards. So I went on Craft Creations website and did a virtual shop - putting all sorts of things in my basket. When it got to check-out the total came to over £30....WHAT! I went back and took things out of the basket but it still came to over £20......too much for someone with shelves and boxes full of card making stuff. I switched the lap top off and looked through my stash again and at last came up with an idea and made the cards above.

Spending £0.....satisfaction 10/10!

Even though I printed out the letters and got them into envelopes we were then stuck at home due to the snow and  I didn't get them posted off to arrive on the first of the month............ Finally got them posted when the snow went .

We had a very good morning at Addenbrookes yesterday. Col's specialist nurse had organised his usual clinic appointment + CT scan + bone marrow sampling to perfection, we were in and out and roundabout without too many hold ups and home by 2.15pm. And Good News -  we don't have to go to Addenbrookes for 2 weeks and he can have the Hickman line dressing changed in Ipswich next week instead. It will be nice to have a week without that trip along the A14.

Thank you to everyone for hankie comments yesterday. I love to think of boxes of fancy hankies going into charity shops after each Christmas and then selling again before the next Christmas! Hankies and tea towels were the things I was first "allowed" iron when I was young and I do keep a box of soft tissues for visitors, those ones with balm are much kinder on small noses.

Have a good weekend.

Back Monday

  1. I don't know about you but I get an enormous amount of satisfaction out of making something for nothing.
I have been recycling cards to make my own Christmas cards for a couple of years. I alternate between feeling a cheapskate and being pleased with saving paper.
I'm so pleased to hear your news re Col because I assume that that means he's doing well.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. I guess they weren't really for nothing as the stuff came from boot sales in the past but it's good to use something I already had

  2. Yes!!! Hankies and tea towels and pillowslips were the first things I was 'allowed' to iron!! Allowed - I remember feeling so grown up!

    1. I had a toy ironing board and iron too - in preparation for all the fun of ironing!

  3. Lovely cards. It must feel like a real treat to have 2 weeks Addenbrookes free! A long drive and then long waits in the hospital are exhausting (I remember it well, especially the long queue at blood testing). Enjoy your weekend and two week "holiday".

    1. Yes, Ipswich is 25 minutes so much better than an hour and 20 minutes

  5. The cards are really lovely, and beautifully made.
I debated with myself whether or not to open mine early, but decided I would. It means I get to enjoy it for longer!
    Thank you so much Sue.
And, of course, like everyone else, I'm so pleased about the reduction in the Addenbrookes visits. The only good thing to come out of it (apart of course from Col's treatment!) is that you have become a lot more confident in your driving!

    1. You are very naughty! I really should have left this post until after Easter but I'm running out of ideas for daily posting.

    2. And, having had visitors over the weekend (nosey children and grandchildren!) the card has been well admired. I've been told my friend is very clever, and I of course agreed with that!

  6. I love those cards. I always used to find that my best cards were creations made from the 'scraps' pile and they always sold first at the Farmers Markets we did so other people must have thought so too.

Glad to hear you have a week off from that long drive.

  7. Great cards, I always find if you buy a pack of any decorations, I am always left with at least half a pack after I have done my cards. These mount up in my stash and most don't get used.

I made the mistake ONCE of using the tissues treated with balm to clean my eyeglasses..will not make that mistake again!!!

  10. Very cute cards. Card making seems to be much more popular in the UK than in the US.

  12. Those cards are lovely! I remember ironing hankies at my grandmother's farm. My uncle used the red with white dots and the "hired man" used the blue with white dots. -Jenn

  20. Love the cards and yes its very satisfying when you manage to make something from almost nothing. And a great result not having to travel to Addenbrookes for a couple of week.
