Choosing a Jigsaw Puzzle

I can't do just any old jigsaw, I'm a bit fussy about the picture.

This is what I found at a car boot sale to have a go at during the autumn.

Looks good - although all that frothing sea might be a bit difficult. Hopefully it's complete as the box looks as new.

There were some other good puzzles on another car boot stall, a lady was looking through them and I hoped she would leave one for me but she bought 7!   7 x 1,000 jigsaws would take me a year.......at least. She was telling the people that she did 2 or 3 every week! Blimey. She must be up all night.

I'm not sure when I'll get started - it's another busy week.

Back Tomorrow

  1. Brilliant picture. I love the ones with unusual shapes.

    1. I don't like the bits that pretend to be straight edges!

  2. Not too much sky but as you said, the sea may take a bit of time. Looks an interesting picture anyway. What a shame that woman brought all those jigsaw puzzles - surely she couldn't have been doing 2 or 3 x 1000 piece ones a week?!! Perhaps a little fib and she is going to sell them on?

    1. I think she was genuine. Don't know where they would sell for more than £1 unless they sell on ebay for more - I've not looked

  3. My parents used to love doing puzzles. I've never been that attracted to them but I guess it's never too late to start. You'll have fun with that one!

  6. Gerard and I enjoy doing a puzzle together, a few pieces at a time that can take several days to complete. We did a mammoth shop (from the car boot sale) prior to moving so we have plenty to be going on with.

    1. There are certainly lots around second hand - like books and childrens toys, I never need to buy new

  7. Th at does look like a good puzzle. I'll be popping round to help you! Puzzles are usually an after Christmas occupation for us. I say us. Husband usually waits until I am nearly finished before he joins in!

  8. We did a 1000 piece one in a tiny 2 berth caravan on holiday along time ago when first married. There was only one table surface which was also part of the bed at night so we literally had to sleep on it under the seat cushions and eat on it until we had finished it!
    The froth looks challenging.

    1. I've been trying to sort the edges and finding lots of middle bits with nearly straight sides - very annoying!

  9. I love jigsaws :) I could easily do that many a week, if I sat down and did little else, I find them addictive. Our library van in Dorset had a selection you could borrow, so I passed on my unwanted ones to them there was no charge to borrow. I now collect knitting themed ones, but there aren't many about. I like a good bit of sky in them too!

  10. I did one puzzle a week, often more, when we were selling the farm, for therapy. It was a stressful time and jigsaws were the only way I found to get away from the stress. The sale went on for 8 months and everyday something more horrendous than the previous day happened. I bought all the puzzles from charity shows for £1 or 50p, and was so stressed that at that time I did not worry about what the picture was or what make they were! I also like a good bit of sky. It is a challenge.

  12. I have my Christmas jigsaw ready to do as it was bought in a sale and is last year’s version from Waddington. I always used to have a jigsaw on the go but that end of the table tends to have my sewing machine on it these days! Enjoy!

  13. There is a jigsaw puzzle going on a table here on the 1st floor all the time. One or two people are real addicts and spend most of their time there.

    1. The hospital where we had to go for appointments had a jigsaw on the go in the waiting area, I sometimes did a few bits while we were waiting

  14. I do love a challenging jigsaw and I too am very fussy about the picture. I saw a 2000 piece puzzle advertised the other day, that would be fun to do.

  15. I’m fussy about jigsaw pictures, too. My cat won’t “allow” me to do jigsaws so I haven’t done one in a long time but love them.

By the way, I had a wonderful time on my visit to England last month, London and Somerset. Saw the church where my great-great grandparents were married and made a new friend of the lovely church secretary. Everyone in England was so polite!

  17. I've got a few new puzzles lined up for the winter but I do need to get myself a mat so that I can roll it up and move it when I need the dining table! That one is a lovely picture.

  19. My husband and daughter are the jigsaw fanatics here. I don't mind doing the odd bit, but I quickly lose patience. We (yes my husband AND I) did a 2,000 piece puzzle once and it took forever to finish. My daughter is always on the look out for 1,000 pieces or more.
I like different pictures on the front and like the picture of the one you are doing now. Enjoy.

  20. We take ages to do 1000 piece jigsaw, and have it on a board for weeks! But it nice to go past and suddenly see the one piece we were looking for.

  21. I love a good jigsaw puzzle and I am a bit picky about them as well. I don't often have time for them but when Winter gets here they are fun to do on a cold night. I agree with you - I hate it when they tease you with straight edges that are not actually edge pieces!

  22. My hubby loves a good jigsaw, the more of a challenge the better. I always think it’s such a shame to take them apart after spending all that time putting it together xx

  24. Many years ago we did jigsaw puzzles. The black and white ones were the last ones we did and when I said goodbye to jigsaws!

  25. Too right, Sue! I couldn't bother with a jigsaw puzzle unless I liked the picture. I liked the pictures by Stephen Darbishire from his lovely paintings, but I've not seen any around for quite some time. Last winter I bought some puzzles of such things as garden sheds and a lovely cut-through of a pretend stately home, with below stairs and above stairs, it was great fun to do.

  27. It's been years since we tried a puzzle because the current cats like to steal the pieces! That looks like a good challenging one you've bought.

  28. I have just got back into doing jigsaws (not done one for over twenty years) and I am loving it.
My favourites are the Gibson ones and I have not long finished their Driving Home For Christmas Special Edition for 2018 which was a gift from DD. 1000 pieces and it was finished in two days but only because I needed the table for doing something else.
That's a lovely one you picked up.
    Hugs-x-

  29. Nice puzzle! I bought 3 puzzles that were already done and they were glued togther and a popsicle frame around them. Not that big of size you have but a good gift for a few people coming towards Christmas. I rarely do puzzles now but have a Pepsi Cola one I got from a neighbor a few years ago...do it sometime. A memory of them as they both are gone now. Have a good weekend!
