And was so stunned that it sat there long enough for me to fetch the camera and zoom in..............
The roses in the oval rose garden got in the way of a good clear photo...............
But I was pleased with these I did take .............
before it was off and away..........A Sparrowhawk doesn't usually stay still for long enough to be photographed. I suppose it is a Sparrowhawk?
Back Tomorrow
Sue
Wow! Yes, it looks exactly like a sparrowhawk and these are amazing photos. I'm glad it was OK.

Another right place, right time moment
DeleteGreat photos! He does look a little stunned or maybe he was embarassed!
ReplyDeleteThat made me smile :-)
DeleteThree bits of good luck then - the sparrow got away, the sparrowhawk survived his crash, and you got some good photographs thanks to your quick thinking. No doubt he got his meal later, when his head had cleared.
ReplyDeleteI just happened to be near the window to see the crash - what luck!
DeleteOne miserable (in terms of weather) Christmas morning, we were in North Wales. While the kitchen team were doing their stuff, a few of us dressed up and went for a long walk. The way back took us out of the lovely scenery and along a bleak country road, and we were glad to see a bus shelter. We stood under it, out of the icy rain, and had a snack.
ReplyDeleteBill got out a sandwich, and, before he could eat it, quick as a flash a sparrow hawk flew in, right between us humans, and stole it!
And looked just like yours Sue!
That must have been quite amazing - it obviously fancied sparrow sandwich for breakfast!
DeleteThese are great photo's Sue. Glad the sparrowhawk was only stunned and flew off once it had composed itself.
ReplyDeleteMitzi
It stayed just long enough for me to grab the camera and get these photos and then off it went
DeleteThose are fantastic pictures, and what perfect timing! I love birds of prey. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI often see buzzards really up high, too high to photograph sadly
DeleteSounds like that was a lucky sparrow. Love the photos, really clear, what a privilege to see xx
ReplyDeleteWe have dozens of sparrows around here so I often see sparrowhawks - but not crashing into the hedge!
DeleteOh the poor thing but I'm glad it's OK....as was the poor little bird that flew into my window yesterday. It went with such a whomp that I felt sure it must have broken it's neck but no he flew off eventually.

They do seem to survive quite nasty crashes -thank goodness
DeleteThe DP says you have a female too. I doubt she was stunned, its normal behaviour! Fantastic photos.x
ReplyDeleteAh - Expert confirmation!
DeleteIt honestly did crash into a thick bit of hedge and fell backwards. I was just in the right place at the right moment to see it
Wow, great photos, glad it was OK.
ReplyDeleteWhat luck to see that and with time to grab your camera and take a photo too!
ReplyDeleteI had one crash into my window with a pigeon it had caught they were both knocked senseless and the pigeon couldn't believe its luck as he got his act together first and was away. the hawk just looked confused.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that look known as a bokeh or something similar? x
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of a very stunned bird!
