December 9th and the Christmas Post

I like this years Christmas stamps, 2nd class of course

and I've written almost all my cards and posted some. My problem is always I start with good intentions of writing a letter to go with cards going to people I don't see and then end up scribbling a quick message inside the card instead.
4 cards have arrived through the post already - we are an old fashioned family - still prefer proper cards rather than e cards and anyway I want to keep postmen in work!

and to save you looking them up here are the latest recommended posting dates for all services to UK addresses.

Bit sad for Canadians!

  1. As you say - poor Canadians! The stamps are delightful though!

    1. It must be really annoying. I have one card to post to Canada - hope it gets there sometime

  2. Morning Sue, thanks for the posting info. I know people use industrial action as a last resort (well, usually!), but have never agreed with it...inconveniencing innocent people to get what you want has never sat well with me.

    1. The train travellers always seem to come off worse in strikes, must be annoying to pay 1000s for a season ticket and then find they are on strike again.

  3. I take it Australians have missed the boat:)

  4. My parents used to send about 150 cards each year, my list is very much shorter, not even one fifth of what they sent! As with wrapping presents, I begin with good intentions but quality control diminishes as I get further down the line. I do like those stamps, though.

    1. Goodness..... 150 is a lot.
My list has shrunk a lot this year again

  5. Thank you for the dates. After the year I've had Christmas cards are the last thing on my mind at the moment but I will try and write them this week.

  6. Thank you Sue for the information, I am not sending so many cards this year I am putting the pennies into a charity box what I have saved partly because I cannot write as much since the stroke.

  7. I have a few cards to finish today, our hope is to post them all tomorrow. The cards are always the last big task in our house, sadly our posting list is getting smaller, but like you we do love to send and receive real cards.

  8. I do like the Christmas stamps this year bright and cheerful, though I haven’t got round to buying any myself yet am using up odd stamps that I’d got in my purse. Have cut back a lot on exchanging cards at some of the local groups that I go to and will give some money into Cancer Research but still nice to send cards through the post with sometimes a letter or even just a note

  9. I suffer from "letteritis", too. Good intentions don't seem to be enough. But you are ahead of me, I haven't even gotten the cards out yet.

  10. I'll be writing mine out on Monday and my husband can post them straight away. I meant to get them done earlier than this and have been making them all year, but I may have to resort to some being bought as some of my card blanks are green and some red, so the verses I did which I was going to put on the cards won't easily be seen. (I always use blue ink for writing to family and friends, to me black ink is for official use only). A few of my cards are white blanks, so they will be okay. After Christmas I will print the verses on white paper and stick them into the green and red for next year. I never gave it a thought when I made them, a DUH moment.

I also like the stamps this year, but remember one year when the Post Office made stamps out of childrens drawings of Christmas, which I thought were lovely.

  11. In my part of Canada, everything is coming through just fine. Even things that have been ordered online or from other countries are getting through with no problems. So have at it, send to Canada. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    1. Not in my little corner of Canada Jean. I think it all depends on where you live.

      God bless.

  12. It varies here in Canada. Yesterday I picked up a bill that was to be paid 2 days before….Didn't get it until probably the day after it needed to be paid. I think the bigger cities here are doing pretty well getting the mail out to those who live there. More the smaller centers outside of those are having a problem. I mailed a parcel to my brother last week and it usually only takes 4 business days to get to him. It had been 8 days on Friday and still no sign of said parcel (he only lives about 300km from me).

    Love your Christmas stamps.

    God bless.

  13. Card sending and receiving is not something the Spanish embrace so my card sending has dwindled considerably, not such a bad thing really xcx

  14. My son moved to Canada in September on a 2 year work visa. I posted his card and a small pressie last week and keeping fingers crossed it reaches him in time.

  15. Dare I say it, the Canadian stamps are a little dull this year and so small you can hardly see the image anyway. Looking forward to seeing the British ones. They look bright and cheerful.

  16. I really like the stamps! Postage here in America has got so expensive over the last few years to send to England. I used to send my Mum's calendar in a flat rate envelope for 13 dollars, now they want 34!!! This is the only time of year I send gifts to my Mum. On other holidays I order her things from English shops and have them delivered. Have to love the Internet sometimes!

  17. I haven't written any cards yet!! In my part of Canada the mail is very hit and miss. Usually start receiving cards around the first of the month but have had none yet. We ordered to different items from eastern Canada which are supposed to take 2 business days, it's been 2 weeks so far and tracking says they are sitting in some Ontario postal station!
