Pots for the Plant Stand

Why did I leave some old clay pots at the cottage?

Because I couldn't imagine why I'd need them?
Because  I was already  taking so many things with me?
Because  it's not easy sorting everything out by yourself?

All those reasons and now of course I know I should have brought them with me. - Stupid woman!

Oh well, too late - time to search for some............... not new off the internet or from a garden centre - that's too easy.

And sometimes you strike lucky..........first from a charity shop in Diss - £1.75 each

2 bowl shaped clay pots........... one had a hole in the other didn't and it took me an age to drill the tiniest of holes in the base, think I need a bigger masonry drill bit!
On Monday after the dentists (((shudder))) I went into Ipswich town centre and landed on these in the BHF charity shop

Total of  £6.47 including the little saucers

I've painted the plant stand - slate grey - and potted the two small cacti into the smaller clay pots,  just need to decide what to put in the other pots and keep searching for more.

Haven't done a Summer of Sport update for a few days..........yesterday I watched an hour of Le Tour before the men's quarter finals at Wimbledon. Then caught the highlights at 7pm.They really were up in the clouds at the top of the mountain. At Wimbledon  my new favourite player...... Denis Shapovalov  (wiki says born 15 April 1999 is a Canadian professional tennis player. Shapovalov is currently ranked in the top 15 in the world, and was the youngest to enter the top 30 since 2005) is through to the semi-finals as is Djokovic of course. But poor old Roger Federer is out beaten by a Polish guy who seemed to have come from nowhere - as I'd not seen him play at all in the last 10 days. Perhaps that will be RF's last match.
Then of course there was a Very Important football match.........again......... and they went and did it!! 55 years since England reached the final of a major tournament. Now they meet Italy in the Final of the European Cup on Sunday. Goodness Me!

Back Tomorrow

  2. Sorry Sue Google is playing up.
Your plant stand is great and I love the colour. I agree I left lots of things when I moved and wish I not it was such a rush at the end.
Football was brilliant and look forward to Sunday.

    1. Luckily I've found some things I thought I'd lost or left but the pots are definitely still at the cottage

    1. I brought lots of pots - mainly plastic - with me as they are easier for me to move. Had no clue I would want clay pots!

  4. We watched the match last night - and I NEVER watch football, but this is SPECIAL. Gosh, I was on the edge of my seat, and actually noticing when nifty footwork went on, and good passes etc. I really enjoyed it. Gosh though, Sunday's Fnal - will my nerves stand it?!!

I left my biggest earthenware planter behind on the patio - and in it my favourite colour (pink/yellow) Aquilegia. I gave myself a kicking for that, but fortunately the Aquilegia left babies amongst my other planters that came with me, even a gorgeous ra-ra skirt one (just a double really, but SO pretty) which I've not had before. When I FINALLY get around to putting mulch down on the bank, I shall spread the Aquilegia seeds I brought with me across there and around the place generally.

You had some good finds with the terracotta pots and I am sure you will be on the look-out for them at car boot sales now. They look lovely on your big-spend shelves (worth every penny though). We donated some stuff we no longer needed to a market-trader friend of ours in Hay, in return for big ceramic planters, as he gets them. Sod's Law dictates these are now in short supply!

    1. Not many Aquilegia here - don't want them to take over like they did in the quarter circle flower garden at the cottage.
I'm pleased with how the pots look against the grey. The plant stand is very old but hopefully a few more years in it yet

  5. Sport usually leaves me cold... Until it comes to the Tour de France. Couldn't bear to miss a stage! Total goosepimples.

I don't like hoarding stuff but when one gets rid of something it inevitably turns out to be the one thing one needs.

    1. I've only been interested in watching cycling since the Tour of Britain(?) came down the road near where we lived at the smallholding

  6. Nice paint job on the plant stand. Would that I could share my terracotta pots with you. Just turned all the pansies and violas out of ten pots. They can't take our extreme heat (35-40c), but they were pretty while they lasted.

Preparing for Elsa (under tropical storm warning today)...trying to set up some things to divert expected 3" (76mm) of rain away from house and garden. We've had way too many heavy downpours already this year. Hope Elsa doesn't impact UK's weather too badly next week. Pretty sure the last thing most of you want is more rain and wind.

  7. I checked how much those plant stands are new - between £100 and £200. I think yours would be a £200 stand with the new paint. Very nice. You really did get a bargain.

    1. Goodness, doubt mine is worth that much! But I don't regret the £20

    2. Tasker, you can buy them, like Sue's, new, for between £40 and £50.

  8. Your plant stand has been fully renewed and it looks great. Love the dark gray with the terracotta pots. It is odd how no sooner do we discard something that we need it. In a clean out, I donated a decanter not being used and then saw a similar decanter being used to store mouth wash. Now I'm looking for a replacement.

    1. Hope you find just want you want. I'm sure I still own things that "might come in handy" but probably never will!

  9. I brought several clay pots home when we cleared my in-laws. Not sure what I'll do with them as some are quite tiny, but I couldn't leave them behind! I'm waiting for inspiration, but meanwhile, as my Mum used to say "They don't eat much!" xx

  10. Love the plant stand! I have an appointment with the dentist coming up too: root canal treatment. My husband tells me it is not as painful as you would expect. Mmmmmm.

  11. Will be interested to see how you fill your plant stand - I'm sure it will look fantastic! And I will be anxiously watching the tennis tomorrow too.

  12. I love the plant stand. Those clay pots don't seem so easy to find nowadays. The pots over here at least seem to be made of plastic.

  13. It is called sods law...you don't need something until a couple of weeks after getting rid of it. x
