The 2021 Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing

Each year when the long list for this award is released I like to have a look to see which I've read already.
It's the only book prize that has books that interest me

Just one read so far - The Wild Silence by Raynor Winn. I borrowed English Pastoral from the library in December but didn't read it for some reason. I've read other books by Neil Ansell and Melissa Harrison but not those mentioned above. Most are in stock in the library and The Circling Sky will be ready for me to collect later this month. I may well get around to reading some of the others sometime.

And  HERE  are my other posts about the Book Prize list in previous years

  1. I wasn't aware of the Wainwright prize. That pile of books would definitely keep me occupied.

    1. Some of the other Book Prizes have books that are far too highbrow for me!
These are more my type of reading

  2. Interesting, thank you for listing them. Nature writing is of course the 'in thing' at the moment, especially with enforced stay at home.

    1. A couple of the books listed are about nature during the pandemic so it's certainly given some authors a chance to write.

  3. What a beautiful pile of fascinating books. The Screaming Sky appeals to me as that is what we have here, with the Swifts coming up from the town (where they nest) to feed over our hill. I just LOVE to hear them - they remind me of childhood when Swifts nested at our Community Centre, a couple of hundred yards down the road, and would feed over the wild valley at the back of our home.

  5. That is a genre I have never read - I am usually a mystery reader - so I may have to give them a try. I will have to see if my library carries them.

  7. I'm a Helen McDonald fan, and a Raynor Winn aficionado. Any time her name comes up, I do a google check. Moth is with us and Raynor is planning a third book.
