A Home Delivery

Had a surprise phone call last Thursday from Mobile Library HQ, apologizing for the long time between visits due to the Jubilee bank holiday and then the driver being ill. The call said that they were planning to hand deliver books that people had waiting for them to collect. "What a treat" I said "Yes Please!" He made a note of where I was in the village and said he would need a large box to bring them!

And sure enough he brought them yesterday........  15 in total.

6 Non Fiction by Adrian Bell, Ronald Blythe, Lev Parikan, Adam Nicolson,John Nevis and Charlie Corbett
6  Fiction by Rachel Hore, D.E.Stevenson, Claire Fuller, Kristin Hannah,  Claire Keegan and Sarah Steele. Only the first two are authors I've read before so the others are a mystery as to where I heard about them - here in Blogland probably!
And just 3 crime and one of those is by Anthony Horowitz who I've tried and failed at before.

So plenty to read again before the van comes round in a couple of weeks time (At least I HOPE the van comes round again......... hope the driver is well again)

Now I need to find out what's happened to  3 other books that were originally waiting for me to collect but have gone off into the ether somewhere due to "allocation expired". Which is what happens when books are not collected in time from the reserve shelves....which is what I couldn't do because the van didn't come! Somehow I don't think it's vital that they arrive this month anyway.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. Good haul. Do let us know how you find Unsettled Ground by Clare Fuller, mixed reviews but it does sound interesting. Thank you. Sarah Browne.

    2. Having just read a precis of 'Unsettled Ground', I quite fancy that one myself; I've added it to my list.

  2. What a lot of books to read. My question would be for the Adam Nicholson book. I have read one about the Scottish island he owns, which was very good but the above one, over which my finger hovered the other day I am not sure about.

    1. I've read a few others by A.N - not the islands one - this was the one on the Wainwright prize long list

  3. How lovely to have them delivered by hand. Great service.
I've just worked my way through the Maisie Dobbs series and now I'm enjoying Marion Todd's latest, Old Bones Lie.

    Happy reading! xx

  5. That's a positive - lots of reading to do inside whilst you have to hide from the extreme heat outside. I am plodding through books right now - found - and bought - an Elizabeth Chadwick from the charity shelves at the Co-op: Daughters of the Grail, which I have dived into straight away now all the Phil Rickman's have been read.

  7. How great. I am lucky to live on the border of Essex and Suffolk. I am a member of both libraries and use the mobile library for Essex and bricks and mortar for Suffolk.

I also use Borrowbox and Libby (download books and read off line) and PressReader (online newspapers and magazines).

It is good to have access to a lot of books when you read a lot.

    Enjoy!

    1. My late husband joined Norfolk libraries when he found that the Norwich library had a big stock of RAF and USAF history that he could request. He often worked on the Suffolk Norfolk border so was able to pop to Diss or Harleston to pick up

  13. What a lovely surprise to get offered a home delivery of books. I have not read any by Hannah, but had just a friend recommend one of her books. I thought the book by Bevis looked interesting -and wondered how you had heard about the book? I have just recommended my library purchase it—not sure if they will, but its worth a try. I always enjoy your book posts, and get ideas from them, Jean in Winnnipeg,

    1. They don't usually deliver - it was a one off due to missing mobile library visits and we can order books from anywhere in Suffolk - so lots of choice

  16. A timely post for me, Sue, as I am heading to my library today. Of course, lots of those titles aren't carried here but I have found 1 or 2 to add to my list. Thanks and happy reading!

  17. I hope you like the Horowitz. It's an interesting conceit, told in the first person with Horowitz "playing" himself, tag teaming with an irrascible and enigmatic detective. I enjoyed it tremendously and also the sequel.
