Thought it was about time I used my bread-maker for something other than ordinary bread. I choose a Spiced Fruit Loaf. I followed the recipe and it made a big deliciously soft and spicy loaf. Which I cut in half and put one half in the freezer, that's what I do with my usual bread because usually I only have a slice a day.
I know what Colin would have said about the amount of sultanas.
"Did you stand on a ladder to add the fruit, because I think you missed?!"

Sweet moments of sadness. My daughter bought a sourdough loaf with walnuts and dates the other day - never did find them, the machine must have run empty.
ReplyDeleteNo sadness as it made me smile. He would say the same if I made buns for his pack-up and the fruit was a bit sparse!
DeleteAs Thelma said, sweet moments of sadness. That comment did make me smile. He sounds like he had a wry sense of humour. I am tempted to make Hot X Buns in my bread-maker as Keith loves those. May give it a whirl this morning.
ReplyDeleteI ought to try some other bread recipes too. Hope the Hot Cross Buns go well
DeleteThe fruit may be sparse, but the texture looks excellent. And maybe you will discover that the half loaf from the freezer turns out to be doubly fruity when you slice into it.
ReplyDeleteThe fruit must be somewhere!
DeleteIt looks absolutely delicious and you can add a bit more fruit to the next one, can't you? xx
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit wary of altering the recipe in case it goes completely wrong
DeleteLooks great. Too much fruit would have turned it into a cake.
ReplyDeleteThat's true
DeleteA lovely saying, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove Col's comment - shall try to remember it - I am sure I can use it for something sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteWe used our bread maker quite a lot for years but, as we use the processor for everything now, daughter has now taken it.
ReplyDeleteLooks about the right amount for me , otherwise as someone else mentioned, it turns into fruit cake
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
I agree that more fruit would have made it like a cake. It looks delicious and I would love a slice toasted. It’s a great saying of Col’s-I guess he liked a good amount of fruit in baked goods. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI had not heard that expression before but loved it!
ReplyDeleteI love it when little expressions and comments come back to you like that. I hear in my head lots of comments that my Dad would have made when I do something slightly cack-handed in the garden, and it always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice saying bringing a smile and fond memories.
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely, if you wanted it less bread-like without adding too much fruit could you use a little allspice or similar?
ReplyDeleteHaha, but my hubby was the other way round - he would have been complaining about that number of sultanas and there was always never enough spice!
ReplyDeleteI really ought to use my bread maker a bit more as I only use it for basic bread and pizza dough. A spiced loaf sounds good and yours looks lovely. I might try it this weekend. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI think that's a nice looking loaf of bread.
ReplyDeleteNot a big raisin or sultana fan here so I think the amount is perfect.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The bread looks wonderfully soft and fresh, but I think that it is a great description. There would be mutiny here.
