Aconite and Hellebore

Apart from snowdrops, the earliest flowers in my garden are a few little Winter Aconites and the Hellebore or Christmas Rose

There is a Flower Fairy for the Winter Aconites

No Flower Fairy for the Helebore

I can see I've got a heck of a lot of tidying and weeding to do in the quarter - circle flower garden once spring arrives!

  3. There is one clump of snowdrops and one hellebore left in the side garden. The primulas have disappeared. Too cold today to start pokinhbin the garden to see if there are any hiding among the shrubs. Lovely hellebores in your garden.

  4. Our snowdrops are barely 1” tall at the moment, no signs of daffodils either, which is unusual for here.

  5. I love all flowers but the spring ones are the favourite. I have lots of Christmas Roses out but I always cut the large leaves of. It's very cold here today but lovely and bright. I am food shopping today.

  6. My snowdrops disappeared last year but the hellebore is coming up. We could do with a good tidy up in the garden but it's way too cold for me out there I'm afraid.

  8. I like that poem. In my Flora Britannica (great book) Richard Mabey states that aconites are sometimes called choirboys because of the ruff around the flowers. (I see the topic has struck a chord in Mumbai).

  9. My garden here in the US is frown solid.. no chance of anything for a few months!
I'm always amazed what is out when I'm over in February, in the U.K., to visit the grandchildren over half term!
I hope to add a LOT more Hellebores to my garden.. they've become favorites!

  11. It's lovely to see all the tiny flowers appearing isn't it.

We have masses of Snowdrops, including some tiny, tiny ones that have just appeared in Chicken World, most definitely not planted there by us and not there for sure last year, very strange. Fairy Snowdrops perhaps :-)

  13. I am very envious - green grass & flowers! It's a beautiful sunny day here but it's Minus 28C with the windchill, we've got 10cm of snow on the ground and another 10 o 15cm is due to fall over the next couple of days - no Spring for us for months yet!

  14. I noticed some clumps of daffodils starting to poke through the earth. I love the stirrings of Spring and Spring blooms starting to emerge.

  15. I found some Hellebores while out today on my walk. They were a welcome sight as there wasn't much else flowering. We used to have some green ones in our garden, but I they haven't come up the last few years.

  16. It is such a pleasure to spot these winter beauties braving the icy weather. I spotted with tiny beginnings of wild garlic in Owl Wood, today. Tiny little shoots, but I pinched a bit off the top and there was the garlic smell! Exciting times to come.

  17. Another sweet Flower Fairy! It is wonderful to see green and color popping up from the ground. We will not see any green or color until Spring here. The world is brown when there isn't snow on the ground.

  18. So do we need to have a clear up, although we have pruned some shrubs this week when the sun shone. There were deep red hellebores for sale at Waitrose but at £10 each I left them there!
