Walking, Railways and Answers

We walked the footpaths around us several times in the first months we were here while Colin was still well enough but since he died I've not done much walking at all. Trying to keep busy has taken all my time.
That needs to change as swimming once a week isn't really enough for fitness. So last week I did a short walk (and I mean short!) one day and then two days later a wee bit longer..........which is the smallest circular walk - only just over a mile................. I need to build up gradually!

Before I got to this lane I had to cross the field at the end of the meadow - 'twas a tad muddy.

A tree covered in small crab apples, it was also full of blackbirds eating them until I came along, the caravan is in the garden of a house and looks really old. I expect someone lived in it while they were doing up the house and then just left it to fall apart.
This is a small barn that's falling down. I wonder if someone will get permission to rebuild it as a house  one day, it happens a lot in Suffolk
On a dull day none of the photos, taken on my phone, were much good.

Made a decision  to get myself some walking shoes rather than my big walking boots.... next month. The boots are so difficult to get on and heavy too, especially when caked in good Suffolk sticky clay soil.

With a bit more walking I'll be able to get down across the fields to the Middy Heritage Railway Museum when they have their WWII re-enactment weekend in May. I just had a look on  THEIR WEBSITE and found they have a "guest engine" there for the season - it's the little shunting engine Sirapite which is usually to be seen at the GARRETTS LONG SHOP MUSEUM in Leiston, just down the road from daughters house. What puzzles me is Sirapite is one of the main attractions at The Long Shop so people visiting there  to see it this year will be disappointed.

Here are the answers to the spot the difference jigsaw puzzle pictures from Thursdays post.
Top is  the picture on the box
  1. The ladder doesn't go as far up the tree
  2. The weather vane on the summer house becomes a ball
  3. The man digging has a blue instead of brown jacket
  4. The man digging is using a spade rather than fork
  5. The statue figure is reversed
  6. The right hand butterfly by the roses is a different sort
  7. There is a hedgehog by the greenhouse door instead of a rabbit
  8. There is a squirrel in the apple tree instead of a bird
  9. The pigeon flying between house and greenhouse is reversed
  10. There is a rose bud rather than full rose in bottom left rose bush
  11. The man pushing the wheelbarrow has a cap instead of a hat
  12. The front door of the house is red rather than blue
  13. The thrush on the pond surround has become a blackbird
  14. The cat on the path on the left hand edge is reversed
  15. and finally - most difficult to see - on the ground by the ladder an extra apple has appeared.
and here is the puzzle.

Think I may have got rather too choosy about jigsaws, went round all 10 charity shops in Stowmarket and didn't find one I wanted to do!

Have a wonderful weekend folks,
Back Monday
Sue

  1. Thanks for the answers Sue, I would never have found that extra apple! It's lovely when you can go walking in the countryside right from your own doorstep, isn't it. I do love your header photo, it would be lovely blown up and framed on your wall.

    1. The lady who we bought from left us a very old aerial photo picture of the house, before conservatory from about the early 70's - interesting comparison

  2. Brilliant that you're getting out walking.I'm very aware that if I can get myself out for a walk every day, or every other day, I feel so much better.

  3. Wonderful news about the walking. Build it up gently, you will soon find your feet refuse to stay at home, if you know what I mean!
I had to smile when I read the list of differences, I found 15, but I am sure they didn't all match the list.

    1. The muddy field is the problem, puts me off and if I go the other way its just a there and back walk and that's boring!

  4. Thanks for the list. I found a few of them but not many - obviously I'm not very observant!
I have some walking shoes from Karrimor and am really pleased with them. They're very supportive and comfortable. I've never had walking boots but can imagine they are very heavy. I'm very glad you're getting out and about.
And finally - I think I would love to live in a converted barn. They all seem so spacious.

  5. Walking is a great way to exercise, especially when you have some beautiful countryside on your doorstep.
Forgive me if I'm speaking out of place but would getting a dog be a possibility for you? They are great way of getting regularly and such good company too. X

  6. I'm so glad that, despite your saying posts might be sparse during January, they haven't been.
They have been up to your usual standard; interesting, informative and honest. Thank you.
I only hope I can be as brave as you seem to be, ( I’m sure there are many dark hours), if I have to face the same loss.
We had a lovely day here yesterday so I was telling everyone about the St. Paul's Day rhyme.
Ilona's (mean queen) walking challenge got us going 3 years ago and we've been doing it ever since. It's difficult to stick to because it takes quite a chunk out of the day and needs planning round but the benefits are enormous to us. Sue

    1. I've surprised myself by finding enough things to do daily posts!
I'm not brave, just taking a week at a time and not looking forward to far.

  7. We have just started to go swimming to get some more exercise, our walks are quite small due to Gerards RA. What a beautiful lane to walk down, you certainly live in a beautiful part of the Country.

  8. We have Health Walks here which are run all year and are free. Is there anything like that where you are?

  9. Thank you for the list for the puzzle. I am looking forward to shopping next Tuesday to see if I can find a puzzle. We have a walking group in our village every week but they do about 5/6 miles which is to much for me I can only do about 1/2 but I enjoy it especially now the flowers are growing saw snowdrops yesterday.

  10. Reading Hazel (above) I was just about to ask whether you have a walking group in your village Sue. After he retired David joined one to keep fit and he walked almost to the end of his life. I am rather weak willed and I know I wouldn't walk three times a day if I didn't have my dog - is a dog a possibility (or do you even like dogs?)

    1. No walking group and I'm too unsociable to walk with other people anyway!
As for a dog - I don't mind other peoples, we had one for 10 years and said no more dogs, they are a big tie and I don't want the responsibility and what on earth would Polly think!

  11. Thanks for printing the answers, I missed out on the fallen apple and the spade instead of the fork ... drat!!

Like you I would be much to unsociable to walk with a group of other people, I much prefer to do my own thing, and walk my own distance. Of course I have dogs but occasionally I do enjoy a walk on my own, even if it does make me feel slightly guilty at leaving them behind.

  12. I know exactly how you feel about blogging Sue. I found the same when I lost David - I just felt I had so very many friends and they were supporting me.

  13. I walk every day as you know. It never fails to make feel mentally better about things and obviously physically is good! But I do drive to walk! I could walk round here, but it has to be level and I love the sea.

    1. Your wheels would soon get stuck in the mud here at the moment! If I was close to the sea I would drive to walk too

  14. I enjoy puzzles but since the arrival of our pups have not done one due to high probability of being tossed to the winds. I love walking alone then I can stop and look at things and have a conversation with myself. I have to make lots of noise in case a bear is travelling the same route, they do not like to be surprised by humans.

  15. Walking is such a great exercise and you have a beautiful area to walk. I try to walk regularly but where I live is all paved streets and rather boring. I would love to walk in an area like where you live. Thanks for the puzzle answers. I found 14 but missed the extra apple and the ladder of all things! I must had added an extra one? It was a fun post Sue!

  16. I hope to start walking again in the spring when the snow is gone. I'm more or less in the country now, but I remember when I was in my 20s living in New York City, I was always walking. We would often take the subway quite a ways on the weekend and walk home, window-shopping along the way and stopping for lunch. I haven't thought about that in ages - a nice memory.

  17. It was 4 and 15 where I wasn't sure if I was seeing it right from the photos as the detail is so very tiny - so pleased you have confirmed the list. My Legal Aid audit training does come in handy sometimes - at work some of the Solicitors used to say I spotted too much as I had to keep them all compliant and notice when they completed documents incorrectly. I need to take up these Spot the Difference jigsaws to keep my brain going - but then maybe I should be walking instead for the physical fitness!

  18. Nice walks for you! Don't get stuck in the mud! Boots are rarely easy to walk in while exercising. Hope you find some nice ones for yourself! Nice puzzle. I didn't see all that was wrong...didn't look close enough. Blessing!

  19. Walking is also very meditative, you do need a decent pair of shoes though, the mud is such a nuisance.

  20. I know what you mean about the walks. Went on my first proper walk in ages last week with my friends. It was very muddy but it does make you feel so much better doesn't it? As a child I was always a roamer walking miles to discover stuff. Blows away those cobwebs.

  21. Since moving to the city centre I walk more than ever. Sheffield is hilly but the walk home can be all downhill! Swim too but should do more. Enjoying your daily blog very much.

  22. I hope I'm in time to recommend /Muck Boots' for your next footwear purchase.

There's usually a discount available or even a sale. Muck Boots are lighter thasn walking boots, waterproof and comfortable to wear with socks. I heartily recommend you have a look at their website. Personally I prefer the ankle boots to the long ones (always a bit afraid my calves might be too fat!)
