An Idea

No idea what to blog about while I'm in between homes but there was a comment from Judyk  who said...........

"Why don't you have everyone ask a question and then you could Blog answers. You could maybe get several posts as you just answer so many questions each time. Just a thought and also I'd love to see some photos of where you are and the cost of the Holiday let. What does the area have to offer and photos of the area. Thanks"

So there you go..........ask me a question and I'll answer as long as it's not too personal! and I have no plans to tell anyone how much the holiday let is costing me for 4 weeks but it's more than a few pence!

And on the subject of questions.............
1. Did anyone else watch the last of the crime TV drama "Bloodlands" on Sunday evening and think "?"
2. Why does the TV here lose sound through the ads and for a few seconds before, when I'm watching ITV on the catch-up channel(Its a smart TV watching via Freeview)?
3. And why can't I seem to get much heat in the oven here whichever dials I twiddle?

It is on at the main switch as eventually the hot plates heat up

I'm assuming dial below is for light, fan oven or grill, So I turned it round to fan
This one below must be the temperature, and I turned it right round to 250 and the oven was barely warm
I know this one below is the timer clock

So questions and answers needed please

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. I notice there is a red indicator light, which presumably goes off when the oven gets to temperature. If you switch on to the lowest temp, how long does it take to go off? (does it do so?) I think you need to speak to your landlady. If it's a holiday let, it is possible previous guests haven't been using the oven, and she may not be aware it's faulty. Also, where is the element? Our oven at church had the element on the bottom, under the floor. Somebody left some baking sheet on the bottom, when the oven was in use, and that caused the elements to burn out.

  2. I googled the tv sound issue and it is affecting loads of people on Freeview catch up hub, especially ITV hub. Freeview are looking into it. As for the oven, dont know the make so couldn't google it. I would put dial to fan and turn up heat and make sure you can hear fan. But as landlady is next door, go and ask her how to work it. There are heat to keep plates warm only settings with low heat, but dont recognise that symbol in photo you have shown.

    1. Was also wondering how Polly was as no mention from Sue ?

  3. A user guide for the oven might be online if you google the make and or model which may be written on the oven itself? Picture dials on ovens can be ambiguous and I was using the wrong one on mine until I realized.

  4. My oven is not unlike yours and I use mainly on the fan, it takes ages to heat up ... has a red light same as yours, that goes out when it reaches temp - it takes about 20 mins to heat up - no kidding (expensive). hope you find a user manual online p.s. as per Angela's comment, these ovens are not supposed to have anything placed on the bottom as that is where the element lives. I have a question for you on moving house: if you could only take 3 non essential items on your house move, i.e. beautiful, loved, with memories, what would be your three most treasured possessions?

  5. Yes I thought the ending of Bloodlands was disappointing. One minute they were saying it could only be an inside job then suddenly it wasn't - shame because it had a very good cast and apart from the ending I really enjoyed it. We have the same problem with our TV - have done since we bought it, and can't solve the problem. We all moan at Hubby when it happens as it was him who went and bought the TV!!

  6. Frustrating about the oven. I fi8nd that holiday let ovens have quite complicated workings as they try to do several jobs in one machine. It always takes me ages to work out which settings are needed to actually use the oven (as opposed to the grill, the microwave, the plate warmer, etc.
As others have said, If you are still having the same problem after googling/ working through the instructions, etc, I'd suggest contacting the owner for advice. They're usually quite good at responding and, after all, you are there for more than a week so it's more important.

I'd love to see some photos of the let and your views on the area. Is there any kind of garden (not that you could do anything in it, of course)
    xx

  7. OK let's ask a question then...this is one I was asked recently. If you could have done anything as a job/career what would it have been? Arilx

  8. Bloodlands did had a disappointing ending but there is going to be a series 2. We have a fairly new tv with Sky and Netflix (granddaughter brought it with her when she moved in) and constantly have to turn the sound up and down but our adverts can be really loud. You do have the cooker symbols correct, maybe as Betty said, it's just slow but maybe there is a problem with it.

  9. I have the same problem with the smart tv sound on catch up. I thought my tv needed resetting.

  10. I stopped watching Bloodlands after the 2nd program, BUT I did enjoy Grace on ITV Sunday night, he's a DCI based in Brighton from the Peter James books, lovely shots around Brighton and a great plot.

    1. I was scratching my head and thinking, I'm sure this story is familiar! I enjoyed it but fell asleep before the end :) Will be following the others now .

  11. I get sick of series having disappointing endings, but it's usually because they realise they might be commissioned for another series and have to leave a bit of ambiguity. It's one of the reasons I love ITV's Unforgotten, each story is self contained over a series and it is possible to pick up on the few things that carry forward if you haven't seen the others.

A question ... Of each of the properties that you have lived in which suited you best style-wise and which one holds the happiest memories?

  12. I didn't watch Bloodlands - I started but it was too unpleasant for me to watch just before going to bed!

  13. I felt that Bloodlands left a lot of questions unanswered. Series 2 might tie up some loose ends I suppose.
The ads on our TV are always too loud so we're constantly twiddling the remote button.
Sorry I can't help with the oven. Google is probably the way to go...

  14. Ads are usually played a bit louder than the programs they are inserted in. Some TV's have some sort of smart filter that uses this to detect a change from the program to the adverts, and cuts the adverts out of the replay version. The trouble is that we used to lose a bit of the restart after the ads as it 'made a decision' about whether this was another ad or the program again. Somethings are just too clever for their own (or our own) good.

  15. If you could choose one place to visit in the world, where would it be and why?
What era would you like to be a part of if you could go back in time?
You are so great at explaining things that I look forward to your answers.

  16. Hi Sue, my question is about Polly and your move; have been checking in every day but no mention of her ?

  17. Having experienced Nesbit's vocals before we turned the subtitles on before starting Bloodlands (not seen final episode yet). Very often we find drams "mumbled" so now we are experienced at the subtitles it does not matter too much which country of origin it is.

  18. On the oven question our fan oven has developed an annoying squeaking and fails to get up to temperature so i feel your frustration and await hints of what we could do too!

  19. I would, as previous people have commented, be calling my landlord.

  20. Good luck with the oven. I imagine you would really like to be able to use it while there! Here is my question for you: How, why and when did you get started blogging and what helpful hints do you have for new bloggers?

  21. Try YouTube for an explanation of the oven controls. YouTube is often my go to for general fix solutions. My blogging question is: When you move in to your new home will you renovate or is everything just fine as is?

  22. I can't answer your questions but maybe you can answer mine: If one was coming to visit Suffolk, what would be some of the places or things we'd be sure to see?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes, I would also like to know more about Suffolk, and what to see during the different seasons. Thank you, Pauline, New Zealand
