At the Saturday Car-boot Sale I bought an Olive Tree...................

.............................................and then I went to Lidl and bought another one!

I didn't go to Lidl to buy an Olive tree but when I saw them I thought maybe two would be better than one for pollination or whatever ( although I think they might be self pollinating). The car-boot one is trained as  a standard and already several feet tall. The Lidl one is only 9 inches tall - hopefully I can keep it alive, hopefully they'll produce fruit but if not they will cheer up the patio as they are evergreen but a totally different colour leaf than the Camellia.
The Lidl one was £2.99, the car boot one was ..............quite a bit more! It was a cheer-up a sort-of- sad Saturday purchase and when I look at them I will always remember that I got them exactly one year after Colin died, it will turn a sad memory into a happy memory as they grow.......and Col's Mum's name was Olive so another memory.

According to the card attached to the bigger of the two trees, Olive trees can live for 2,000 years ........that's a lot of time to look after a tree in a pot!

Many thanks for all the caring comments on Saturday, thank you to everyone for the support. It was an OK day after all, I kept busy, went out and about, spoke to lots of people, came home and read a good book.
Hello and welcome to some new followers - up to 500 - goodness me.

Back Tomorrow

  2. What a lovely way to turn a sad time to a better time. Olive oi is, of course, the healing oil.

  3. I have always found that plants from Lidl are inexpensive and do well . Good luck with both your Olive trees.

    1. The Lidl one looks very small, may take years to get to the size of the other one

  7. Glad it turned out to be an OK day on Saturday and that you have found some new rememberance memories. I got two Olive trees for my daughters wedding - large standards courtesy of Morrissons £15 each - they looked really good stood either side of the church door and now they reside at the cottage. Olives were bitter though!

  8. Well turning sad moments into happy mementos to keep is a good idea, like planting a tree for a grandchild and watching them both grow.

  11. I had 2 lovely Olives, expensive ones in posh pots either side of our front door. We returned from holiday and they had been stolen. So lesson learnt don't buy expensive ones again, a thief must have loaded them in a car and driven off.

  14. That's the second time I've read about the Lidl olive trees today. Sadly we don't have a local Lidl, but one is being built and I shall be able to enjoy their offers from the end of the year. Hope they both thrive. Arilx

  15. The olive tree looks good and healthy, and as you said, the leaves are a different green but very pretty. Hope they will both do well. So glad your Saturday turned out okay. A good book is always a good way to end the day!
